"Mama, I'm home"
"Mama?"
The girl walked into the family room. On to the bedroom, into the kitchen...It was really dark in there now that i thought about it. I watched the girl as she frantically searched around the room. I knew she could sense me, the look in her eyes told me that she was terrified. Her cat had been howling at me the whole time, the darkness did not do very well to shield me away from her eyes.
Her cat stood straight underneath me, howling at me. She looked up, I didn't want her to know I was there. Oh goodness I so wanted to kill that cat right then. I could feel her psychic senses straining to find my presence, reflecting the light against the ceiling. I was about to shield myself away into the darkness when... Pow the senses on my hairs tinged, she had seen me.
She dropped the candle she was about to light and ran out the front door, slammed it shut and leaned against it panting. I floated above her head and saw the hair on the back of her neck rising up. She looked around her and sank down into a sitting position.
Sobbing she picked up the growling cat and I watched as it eyed me and tried its best to comfort her. It was really quite amazing, I loved cats, until I died.
I went over to the street and the lights in the street light flickered out. It was pitch black outside, my body was clearly visible in the blackness of the night. She slowly looked up and screamed when she saw what was in front of her, she ran back inside, I followed.
She ran into the kitchen and what she saw made her fall on her knees and sob into her hands. There her mother was lying there on the stone, her face as white as death, and her skin as cold as ice.
At that moment I guess I felt bad for the little girl, kneeling by her mother saddened by the loss of her only family. Me, the ghost that had killed her mother was coming to kill her in her house.
" Mama No Please, please make this all a dream, this can't be it, it just can't" "I can't be alone again."
alone again, again, the words echoed in my brainless head the words I knew so well, after all, I had even said them myself when I was alive.
The girl wailed and cried, her mother was gone and she knew that she could do nothing about it so she lay there all night and almost cried herself to sleep, almost.
She was a sensitive, she could sense nasty things like me, you know the ghosts, if you would like to call them that. She knew I was there, she didn't know what to do about it. she was not trained to do that kind of stuff. So all she could do was sit there next to her dead mother and hopelessly wait for someone to rescue her, yeah you can guess that no one came. It was quite pathetic really.
I almost didn't want to kill her, but part of me knew that it would also put her out of her misery, plus then she would not have to live in an orphanage. Besides she would never have moved away from her mother, so her mother's ghost would have come and killed her. The murder victims always come back, always. Just then the candles she had lit earlier burned out.
The room turned colder and colder and the darkness around the girl got thicker. I shrunk up back to the recesses of the ceiling and watched as she turned to see her mother standing there with her broken body, her bloodied face and bloodshot eyes looked her daughter straight in the eyes, her bony arms stretched out ready to snuff her daughters life out, the mother left out a piercing scream and surged forward towards her daughter.
The girl screamed as her mother came forth and killed her instantly. Her body thudded against the floor, her pale face reflecting death. Her eyes opened wide, she stared at me when her last breath left her body. The mother looked at me, her form flickered and she vanished leaving a cold empty presence in the room. The candles did not come back on, the room was dead silent. I stayed for a little while afterwards and thought about what would happen next.
What would happen to the little girl? How would she appear to the world? The mother will stay in the human world, she had her source, she was content, but the little girl...
I thought of how much emotion she would bring with her, how much rage she could have, or maybe if she was smart she may have control of her emotions, maybe not. I guess it all depends on what kind of person she was.
I waited a little longer. Just when I thought that she was not going to come back, her ghost burst forth wailing. I jumped back, then floated down. I wanted to speak with her just a little bit, then she could go to do whatever she wanted to with the world. She stopped dead in her tracks and looked directly at me.
She had a pale cold face, empty sockets with flowing blood and a mouth with fangs and even more blood. Her yellow sundress was a stained, bloody mess. Her skin was shrunken down and you could clearly see her bones, Her voice echoed and sounded hollow, like a tomb.
"It's so cold, and the candles won't light"
