The Last Training Battle

David woke up on his couch. 

He stood up and stretched, his back hurt.

'Why wasn't I sleeping in my be- oh." David thought.

He ended up talking until two in the morning with Mary. When he came home exhausted, he only had time to lock his door before collapsing on the couch.

David stood up and walked to his dresser. He changed into his work clothes and walked to work. 

At lunch as usual, Yasuga pestered him about his racing life.

"So David, tell me about your latest matches."

"They've been pretty hard."

"Really? Tell me about them."

They sat down and David said,"Well I've raced many people, and many of them are extremely good drivers." 

"Well how good are they?" Yasuga asked.

"Most have been really good. Except for Ryosuke who is a phenomenal driver."

"When is your next match?"

"I don't know. I am actually kind of worried about it."

"Worried? Since when are you scared of drifting?"

"I never said I was scared. It's just I'm racing this kid."

"What's his name?"

"Takumi Fujiwara."

"TAKUMI FUJIWARA?"

"The one and only."

"But he hasn't been defeated, he's beat every professional racer in Gunma!!"

"It's not his record I'm worried about. It's his driving technique."

"Well, how good is he?" Mr. Yasuga asked.

"Let me tell you."

"Takumi doesn't deserve to be called a drifter, he's much much more than that. His technique is impeccable, he's a monster on the downhill, in every meaning of the word.  His corners are the stuff of fairy tales, the way he can go into and out of a corner without dropping a hair of speed is just astounding."

"Wow, he sounds good!"

"That just scratches the surface." David said,"I was worried about Ryosuke, after seeing his clips of him drift like a beast, but Takumi...."

David chuckled,"That kid is on a whole other level. His 86 goes hand in hand with his unbelievably fast but perfect corners. He must've learned the thing I must've known."

"What thing?" Yasuga asked.

"It's a huge secret, promise not tell anyone?"

Yasuga crossed his heart and said,"I promise."

David sighed before revealing the technique David and Takumi had learned years prior. 

David then said,"Before entering a corner, you have to decrease speed and turn heavily in whichever direction you're drifting in. However, the secret he and I learned, is that you can actually not let any pressure slip, but power through a corner by turning lightly and understeering."

"Understeering?" Yasuga asked.

"The basis for all of drifting. When going into a corner, you put enough pressure on the front tires   to make them slide, which makes sure you won't face the inside. Many drifters think this hurts drifting power, when in actuality it strengthens it. This is called understeer."
