David and Takumi sat on a bench overlooking Lake Akina, the sun shimmering off the lake as David looked at the beautiful lake, as Takumi looked at David.

Takumi sat with his hands in his pockets, as David put his elbows on his knees and drank his soda as Takumi didn't touch his.

Takumi cleared his throat.

"What?" David asked.

"Nothing, its just..." Takumi said.

"What?" David asked.

"I really think you won the race." Takumi admitted.

"No! I didn't."

"Yes you did." Takumi reassured.

"Okay, not really."

"Well, I won, but I didn't beat you." Takumi said remembering the battle.

"Maybe..."

There was a silence.

"You are the best driver I've raced." They both said at the same time.

They looked at each other. They both laughed heartily.

"Yeah but you really are." Takumi said.

"I actually thought I was going to loose." David said.

"So did I, I mean you were undefeated. Well you still are to me." Takumi said.

"Nah, you beat me."

"That was the best race I've had for a while." Takumi said stretching.

"Same. I had never felt the kick so much before."

"The what?"

"Talk to Ryosuke about it." David said.

"Sure..."

"So what do you plan to do now?" Takumi asked.

"Well, I thought about it. I want to do what the Akagi Red Suns were doing, before you shattered them. Go around Kanto, establishing a racing legend with my boys, the Kobushi Blue Jets."

"Are they that good?"

David sighed and said,"They need training, but yes they have the *potential* to be that good."

"Wow, good luck with that."

"Thanks. Hey did you actually think I was going to be that good?" David asked.

"Not at all." Takumi answered. 

"I felt the same way, I guess you don't know someones that good until you race them." David said.

"Who taught you to drift like that?" Takumi asked.

"I did, I raced solo in Germany five years back, I guess I had a knack for it."

"Makes sense."

"Something interesting happened after I raced you. A man approached me saying he represented Mitsubishi Motorsport. He wanted me to test drive new models, and I'd even get paid for it."

"Wow, congratulations."

"Thank you. It seems I might even get my hands on some upcoming models, seems fun."David added.

"What about you?" David asked.

"What about me?"

"What do you plan on doing? Keep racing with Project D, maybe even go pro?"

"I don't know, not all of us have a full time job with enough money to make decisions like that."

"Well, whatever you choose, I'll respect." David said nodding.

David stood up and gripped the guardrail overlooking Lake Akina.

"The real reason I called you up here is to tell you that one day, I'll approach you, and I'll challenge you."

"Challenge me?" Takumi asked.

"Uh-huh. After we have enough victories under our belts, we can battle again, and we'll be good enough to make our battle *really* interesting."

"Um, alright then."

David got in his Evo and said to Takumi,"You're an amazing driver Takumi Fujiwara."

"You are too, David Friedland."

"One day, we'll battle again, and we'll find out who's better. Until then, catch you on the fly." David drove off.

Takumi threw away his empty soda can and got in his 86. 

He drove down Akina back towards his life.

So did David.

Tiny scenes flash by.

David and Mary sat a dinner table, Mary giggling at a joke David made.

David took out a napkin and wiped a bit of soup from the side of her mouth.

They smiled at each other.

Takumi raced down Akina with Keisuke on his tail, training together, flashing through a corner, Keisuke shocked at his speed.

"He's gotten better!" Keisuke said.

Kaito wiped sweat from his dirty brow, and kept working on the Evo.

He sipped his coffee and went back to work, installing new tires on the Evo that were spent from the battle with Takumi. 

David and the Blue Jets came and showed them a cake they bought for him, it read:Happy Birthday Kaito!!

Kaito hugged his friends, and they all sat down and ate cake.

Riku and David flew down Kobushi on a practice run, the frame freezes as David flies through a corner with Riku right behind him.
