I watch as the man I just stabbed disappears into ashes in the air, but as soon as he disappears completely, I drop to my knees.
Oh my god, I just stabbed someone.
You just murdered someone.
Aurora. I quickly crawl over to the near-dead girl.
I set my backpack filled with medical equipment on the ground and rushed to check on her. Two other medics came to assist me.
"We have to get her on the stretcher to rush her to Doc. Her injuries are far too grave so we have to be extremely careful trying to move her." Both of them nodded and we went to touch her. We all let out a gasp at how cold she was.
"Quickly quickly, she's on the verge of dying on us."
We tried to move her as carefully as we could, but even then the poor girl whimpered unconsciously.
I softly grab her cold, clammy hand. "It's alright, Aurora. It's going to be alright. You're not alone."The two medics managed to lift the stretcher up as I did this and I let go of her hand as soon as they began to walk away.
One of the medics turns to look at me with a frown on his face. "You can't go naming our patients Alexis."
"I know, but I'm not naming her whatever name I can come up with. I heard one of the trespassers call her this."
Out of nowhere, I get pulled back by one of my arms and come face to face with a very angry gamma.
"Stupid girl," Pyrrhus hissed to my face. His eyes flashed a golden color, indicating that his wolf was trying to come up to the surface.
"Alexis, what are you doing here?" He went to me and grabbed both of my arms. "You could've been killed. You could've been dissipated like the other defenders. God, what the fuck were you thinking?"
I was standing still in his arms, ignoring the chaos around me.
You just murdered someone. "I was sent here."
You need to focus Alexis. You can not panic in these situations, they're normal. It'll happen. Today was just your "lucky" day.
I quickly got out of the trance and pointed to the chunky band around my arm with a red M on it. "I'm a field medic now, remember?"
"Yeah, you passed your exams, but you know you have not had the proper training to be out on the field yet. What the hell was Doc thinking in letting you come out here? There are plenty of other field medics!"
"Doc told us about the commotion and I volunteered. Initially, he didn't want me to come over, but in the end, he decided to let me come along with the group once learned about the female trespasser. He thought it was a good idea because as you can see," I stretched my arm out to point out all the medics in the area attending the injured lycans, "almost all of the field medics are males. If she was awake she could have felt more comfortable in the presence of another female. Plus, the few women that have this occupation are preoccupied with doing another duty right now or pregnant," I exclaimed in frustration.
"You still shouldn't have come. Doc knew this was a situation we hadn't dealt with before and was highly dangerous. You could've been targeted," he boomed. His eyes flashed a golden hue again.
"We were hiding in the bushes, waiting for it to dial down and for us to be allowed to enter the scene, but I couldn't just let that girl be killed...," I was suddenly overcome by emotion and my voice cracked embarrassingly, "I couldn't live with myself."
"What you did was irresponsible and stupid. We don't know what this girl is involved in and if she would bring harm. You could've gotten yourself hurt and the situation could've gotten worse."
