A New Light

Chapter 3

1 Year Old
Today is the day, I'm finally going to sneak out of the crib. From repeated days of doing the same exact thing, I knew that after putting me to sleep for nap time for 5 minutes they would come back to check on me. However, after that, the next 3 hours would be all to myself.

As I listed for the opening and closing of the door to my room, I pretended to be sleeping.

"Eeee, she is so cute! I just wanna cuddle with her."

After she left, and her footsteps walked some distance away, I hoisted myself up and over the crib bars. Making my landing on fluffy carpet, I get up on my feet and start navigating the house for the library. Carefully walking along the walls, I try to best to look out for maids and butlers that might catch me. Hearing footsteps, I quickly hide behind the velvet curtains. Seeing my father and a very high class looking man walking out of the library and past me, I let out a mental sigh of relief.

Quickly scampering over to my he closing doors, I slip through at the last second. Erm, do we even have a librarian? We probably don't right?
Hoping that there is no one else here to catch me, I look over the category of books. Should I start with magic or history?... I am... still a baby, so I don't need to know my history just yet! Quickly finding a beginners book on magic I read flip 8 pages per second. What even is this? Seeing as this was a book truly for beginners, it took almost half the book to explain what magic was, and only one chapter briefly touched on magic spells, circles, incantations, and types.

Sighing, I pick up an advanced book. You know it's a good book when it has magic spells in the first few pages. Apparently, in this world almost everyone has magic. It is something that can't be faked and only depends on yourself. Of course, what kind of help you get to learn magic also effects that. Generally, most people have one or two elements, the special people have three or more. Starting with most basic elements, I find the chapter on water.

Trying to feel around for the molecules of water, imagining them to bond together and form water. The image in my mind forms a small dragon. Opening my eyes I am proud to say the dragon was there. Slowly, I add more water and enlarge the dragon, manipulating to my will, and making it dance. Willing the water to evaporate, I try the same process with fire. It was successful. Feeling special that I have two elements, I test my luck by trying to form a lightning dragon. All of my dragons were created with ease. Slightly worried for myself, I force myself to use all the basic elements. Fire, water, earth, lightning and wind.

The element of earth confused me. If it were the earth, then doesn't it control all of nature. So why was only dirt that was used. Trying to imaging, a green dragon, of wind-air actually- and leaves, it takes a few seconds before it appears. But that just proved my mini theory, earth magic was being used nowhere close to its full potential.
