Chapter Nineteen
Family Bonding
-------------------
Five days.
I have five days left to pack. Five days left to tell my friends and family where I'm going. Five days left to say goodbye. Five days left before I start my tour training.
I start my training on Friday. Since the guys have had plenty of time in England, we're going to Ireland for the last week, ya know... for Niall. So I'll be training my ass of while the guys prance around Dublin like idiots looking for the end of the rainbow. Great...
Now I'm off to Seth's flat. I told him I'd play guitar for his band's rehearsal today since they don't have a guitarist yet. I just hope Xander isn't staring at me this time. That guy freaks me out...
The taxi pulled up to the complex and I payed the man. I ran through the lobby, waving to the new doorman on the way to the lift (Cuz ya know... no one knows what happened to the old doorman *wink*).
I walked down the oh-so-familiar hall down to my brother's flat. I opened the door and sure enough, ugh... Xander was right there.
I brushed off the annoyance of his stares and walked over to the guitar that Seth had plugged into the amp. I played a tune I know and Seth came in. "Oh, you're here. Ready to get started?" He asked.
"Yeah, just one question. Did you write this?"
"Yeah, you like?"
I nodded. To be honest, it wasn't half bad. He even had the lyrics written... Maybe I could sing a little too...
Just then I heard Seth. "One, two, three, four!"
Suddenly I was playing the intro. Being fabulous in one of the many I can :).
Then I was singing. The lyrics Seth had were actually pretty good, and they actually made sense (shocker).
I continued playing and singing. This is awesome! How come I've never rehearsed with Seth before?
Then I realized something. I'm the only one playing... I turn to see Xander and my brother with there mouths hanging open. "What are you guys gawking at?" I asked.
"I'm so confused... I live with you for our entire childhood and never ONCE did I hear THAT come out of your mouth!" Seth said excitedly.
Oh yeah... Seth didn't know I could sing...
"Well yeah... I can sing a little..."
Xander was just sitting there staring at me again... He doesn't talk much does he?
"Ems... Do you want to be in the band?" Seth asked, Xander nodded enthusiastically.
No way. My BROTHER asking me to join his band? Wait... That actually sounds kinda cool. You know... as long as no one knows we're related...
"Um... I-i guess so. But I have the tour coming up so how would that work?" I ask.
Seth thought for a moment. "Well... we could just, like, book gigs for after you're tour thing and we could, like, practice over skype or something..." Xander said.
Woah, he's Australian? Cool... he's still a fucking creep though.
"That's actually a really good idea... You in Ems?" Seth asked.
"Sure. You need a guitarist and a lead singer so, I'm yo gurl!"
"Never say that again..."
"Yeah that was pretty weird wasn't it..."
"Yeah..."
"Well, I gotta get to Mum and Dad's house. I still haven't told them about the whole touring-with-a-world-famous-boy-band thing yet... So, skype later?" I ask.
"Sure, bye Ems."
"Later."
***
This is the most nerve-wracking thing I have ever done... Oh jeez...
I sat down at the table across from my dad as my mum poured the raspberry tea into a cup for me. "So sweety, what would you like to talk about?" My mum asked.
My parents are the most oblivious people on the planet. They can never tell when someone is nervous out of their mind. It makes it even harder that they've always expected me to go to college. I was never good at academics though, I excelled mainly in the arts.
Breath Emma... Breath...
"I've been meaning to tell you guys something... You just have to promise not to get mad at me. Promise?"
"Oh Emma, we won't get mad at you, we promise. Now sweety, what's on your mind?" My dad asked, sitting back in his chair a bit.
"Well, you see. There is this band called One Direction. They're going on tour soon and every band needs a little protection ya know... Their tour manager and bodygaurd, Paul, needed a little extra help and wanted me for the job..." I said the last part a little quieter.
"Well Emma, that's good, right?" My mum said.
Woah. Total opposite reaction I was expecting.
"Y-yeah..." I said.
"Well that'll be fun! Touring the UK, how exciting!" My dad cheered on.
Oh god...
"Well, you see... They're world-famous... I'd be traveling the entire world as a bodyguard."
They stood silent. "The world?! As a BODYGAURD?!" My mom shreiked.
"Do you know how unbelievably dangerous that is? You'd be risking your life for a few singing posers that-"
"They are NOT posers!" I yelled at my dad. "You don't know the WHATSOEVER! So don't you DARE go around labeling them with your superficial and stereotypical crap!!!"
I've never talked to my parents like that before... though, I've never heard them say something like that before either...
I angrily walked to the door. "I'm going on tour next week. And there isn't a thing you can do to stop me."
That was the last thing I said before slamming the door shut behind me.
I had imagined that conversation before...
It went way worse that I expected.
