~~~9 Months Later~~~
It was warm that day, you remember it was. You were standing in the kitchen as you watched Arthur and Alfred in the garden, Alfred had been out of the hospital for a while now and was staying with Arthur, he wasn't completely blinded by the gas, but he now had to wear glasses.
"You won't be able to see the true beauty of my eyes now!" He told you when he first showed you them, you just laughed and nodded. Now Arthur was helping Alfred walk around the garden as his vision was still slightly blurred.
"You know, if we sent you to Germany you would be very useful, you little spy." Ivan said as he wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed your neck before setting his chin in your shoulder. You smiled and put your hands on his as you both watched the two men in the garden. "I have to go to the barracks." You groaned and turned around, he sighed and held your hands in his. "I'm sorry, I will be back as soon as I can, okay?" You just nodded and reached up to kiss him before he left the house. Everything for the past few months had been going great, Arthur knew about yourself and Ivan, as did other people. You had still continued to meet Gilbert, though nobody knew. He was a close friend of yours now and you both regularly met to talk about things other than the war. He said he wished he could meet Ivan and it always made you a little sad knowing that he couldn't.
"You know, I saw your house last night." Gilbert said, you sat up and looked down and him with a confused expression. You had snook away from the house that afternoon to leave Arthur and Alfred alone. Toris and Raivis had gone with Ivan that morning. "I walked to the other side of the woods. To your side."
"Gilbert! Are you insane? If somebody saw you you could have been shot!" You exclaimed, he just smiled and laughed a little. "It's not funny!"
"You remind me so much of my brother sometimes, you know? Lud is always so cautious of things too." He told you, you sighed and crossed your legs as you looked in the direction of the German camp near the other side of the woods. You heard Ivan talking about it to other soldiers, though you had never been, you always wandered what it looked like. "So, is your man out fighting?" You looked down at Gilbert and shook your head.
"He's at the barracks again." You told him, he nodded and hummed before he changed the subject. You and Gilbert stayed in the woods for another few hours until you started to feel a chill and you both agreed to head back. As you said goodbye and started to walk away, Gilbert did something different to usual. He took your arm and turned you around, hugging you awkwardly. You hugged him back, although you were a little surprised by action, before he pulled back and smiled.
"Bye, Kirkland." He said, with that he turned and walked away. You smiled to yourself and made your way back to the house, stopping to walk into the fields to pick some wild flowers.
"Do you ever stay in the house?" You heard someone ask behind you, turning around you saw Ivan standing behind you with a smile on his face. You smiled and simply shook your head as you carried on picking the flowers. You hummed a tune to yourself as you continued to pick the flowers, relishing in the feeling of the warm sun on your bare arms, a feeling you had almost forgotten. "Can I ask you something?" You turned to look at Ivan, smiling when you saw him sitting on the ground, his coat beside him with his scarf with still around his neck. You sat beside him, picked a long blade of grass and tied it around the flower stems before you handed them to Ivan. He smiled as he took them before he kissed the top of your hair. He admired the bunch of flowers as you closed your eyes and faced the sky, smiling as the sun warmed your face. "Vykhodi za menya.*" You turned to your side to look at him and simply smiled, he started to laugh at how you didn't understand such an important question before he took your hand and put the other through your hair as he smiled. "Marry me." You went wide eyed as he whispered this to you before you nodded and jumped onto him, making him laugh as he fell onto his back and kissed you. When you pulled away, he ran one finger down your cheek and smiled. "Looks like you'll be needing these." He held the bunch of flowers up to you before you both laughed.
~~~
You sat in the chair in the corner of the room, looking out at the woods through the window. Ivan was throwing an Engagement Party for you both with people from the barracks here at the house. You had met some new people, including a Chinese man called Wang who Ivan had spoken about a few times.
"What is it, Mon Cher? Regretting choosing the Soviet over me?" You heard Ivan say behind you, you turned to smile to him before you looked back out of the window. "What is it? You seem distracted."
"I just...want some time alone. I'm going for a walk." You told him with a smile as you tapped his shoulder and walked over to Ivan. Arthur and Alfred smiled to you when they saw you, you smiled back before you placed one hand on Ivan's back. He smiled to you and kissed you. "I'm going for some air. I just want some time to myself, is that okay?" Ivan looked a little hesitant, you had heard the men speaking about a German who had been spotted and Ivan was even more cautious about you going out alone. "I promise, I won't be long." After a while he sighed and nodded, you kissed his cheek before you wished everybody else a good afternoon and left. You made sure nobody was by the window before you ran into the woods, smiling as you looked down at the ring on your finger. As you walked to your usual spot, you felt a little disappointed to see Gilbert wasn't there. You looked around you before you took a deep breath and walked a little further, feeling a little nervous when you saw the fence cutting off the German camp. You saw many tents and some men walking back and forth, though you made sure to hide behind a tree when they did. When you saw a familiar head of hair, you were about to stand up and call to Gilbert, however you stopped and hid again you heard him speaking to someone in German. You saw him standing beside a taller, broader man with blue eyes and bright blonde hair, he was dressed in a green uniform, but had the same Iron cross around his neck that Gilbert had. They both seemed to be joking about something, but the other man still looked much stricter than Gilbert did. When the taller man finally moved along and Gilbert was about to walk away, you threw a small rock at him and hid.
"Scheisse! Wer ist da?**" You heard him call as he took out his gun and jumped over the small fence, when he passed you you jumped on his back and laughed as he screamed a little. He pushed you against a tree and put one hand over your mouth, though the panic left his face when he saw it was you. He seemed to be looking around him when he took your hand and pulled you away from the camp. When you were in your usual place, he let go of your hand and finally put his gun away. "What the hell are you doing? You could have got yourself killed!" You smiled a little and nodded. He sat down beside you and put one hand on his chest. "You almost gave me a heart attack! Wait...what's that on your finger?" You smiled when he took your hand and turned to look at you before he smiled and hugged you. "Congrats, Kirkland!"
"I want you to be there." You told him, he turned to look at you and sighed before he nodded and rested his head on your shoulder.
"I know, but...that can't happen." He replied, you simply sighed and nodded before the two of you sat in silence for a while.
"Who was that big guy you were with?" You asked finally,Gilbert laughed and lifted his head from yo it shoulder.
"Ludwig. My younger brother." He told you, you went wide eyed, to which he laughed. "I know, I know. He's scary, right?" You just laughed and nodded. "I really should get back soon, he said I had to go somewhere." You simply sighed and nodded as he hugged you again and walked back in the direction of his camp. You stayed sat in the centre of the woods for a moment before you stood with a sigh and walked back into the house, only to find everybody running with their coats in their hands as they climbed into cars.
"Get inside, Old Girl. We have to go to the barracks." Arthur said as he tried to run, however you held onto his arm. He sighed deeply. "Some of the French soldiers caught an Italian soldier." You went wide eyed and felt your heart thud against your chest.
"I'm coming." You said bluntly as you climbed into the car, ignoring the protests from both Arthur and Alfred who told you Ivan said to stay here. "I don't care what he said, I'm coming." Arthur sighed deeply for a few moments before he climbed in and the car sped towards the town. When you reached the barracks, you climbed out of the car and went into the British barracks with Arthur and Alfred.
"Where are they keeping him?" You heard your brother ask, you listened to the men as they discussed the Italian soldier, who was in the hut which was soon to be the Chinese barracks. You quietly crept from the hut, checked the street and ran towards the barracks, sighing to see a guard standing outside. Luckily, it was a French man you knew and who knew you were marrying Ivan.
"My brother wishes to see you, instantly. He said for me to wait here for Ivan, he'll be here shortly." You told him, he man hesitated for a few moments before he nodded and left for the British hut. When you were sure nobody was there, you crept into the hut and sighed when you saw the same small Italian kneeling, his arms were tied to a pole and his head was facing the floor. You slid the heavy bolt across the door and knelt in front of him, when you took his face and made him look up at you, you gasped when you saw his bloodied lip and bruised eye. "Oh, Feliciano. I'm so sorry." He opened his eyes and smiled a little when he saw you.
"Bella Donna***, this isn't your fault." He said, his voice sounded frail and stuck in his throat. "They're coming, aren't they?" You sighed and nodded as you felt yourself about to cry. "Then you have to leave." You opened your mouth to refuse, however Feliciano spoke. "Go, now." You sighed and pressed a kiss to his hair before you left, relieved to see nobody there. You took a deep breath and ran up the hill, when you looked back down the men were walking into the hut, which caused you to sit in the middle of the path and cry. You brought your knees up to your chest and buried your face in them as you cried, too scared to think what they were doing to him.
"So it's true?" You heard Gilbert ask. You didn't look up to answer him or ask what he was doing so far over, you just continued to cry. When you felt Gilbert's arms wrap around you, you instantly hugged him back and cried into his chest. "You know, I've just been doing the same with Lud? Those two are...you know. At first I thought Lud was just a bit frustrated, but after what I just saw he really loves that little Italian idiot." You looked up at him and sighed as you turned and looked back at the hut in the distance.
"This is going to start something, isn't it?" You asked. Gilbert sighed and silently nodded. "What are you going to do?"
"Walk you home. I was sent to find him, but I want to take you home." He replied, he stood and took your hand as the two of you walked back to the house. When Gilbert left, he hugged you tighter than ever and, for the first time, kissed your hair.
"Gilbert, stay safe. Please." You said to him, he simply nodded and disappeared into the woods.

Ivan didn't come home that evening, so you went to bed late that night, wandering where he was and if Feliciano was okay.
