Sam and I stayed under the bridge in silence for a good thirty minutes.
Finally the light in the sky dimmed and the road was barely visible. I skimmed over the small hill that hid us from everyone else.
"Should we get going?" I asked.
"Yeah his house shouldn't be to far." We began moving again. The town was a lot dirtier than I thought. In school we are told that life will be clean as so the cities.
But I guess that's not true. Nothing they told me seems to be true.
I stayed behind Sam as he lead the way. We ran along back roads and allies in between the big buildings.
I saw a glimpse of pictures on the side of a building. I stopped and stared in awe. They were beautiful. The way they all meshed together and created a picture or mural of art.
Sam stopped and looked at me, "What are you looking at?"
"These pictures," I said walking up to the wall and running my finger along the edge of flower. The flower looked like it was wilting. While all the others around it grow tall and stronger. Taking everything away from the one helpless flower. "There amazing."
"Yeah, " he said stepping next to me and began studying them too. "They are stories or thoughts of people who want to let others think of see eye to eye about things."
"oh." I said still focused on the flower.
"Come on, we still have to go and you know escape this god awful country." He grabbed my hands and pulled me away.
We began running again. Once we reached another small wooded area we sat down and took a break. He pulled out his maps and started fiddling with them.
I took one long sip of water and placed it back in my bag.
You can't go back now. My mind told me.
I felt butterfly's in my stomach as if I just realized that I ran away. But they instantly disappeared.
Crack Crack
Sam and I shot up.
"Don't be to scared, but you guys are leaving behind a trace." A deep male voice said. "Tsk Tsk Tsk"
A dark figure came out from behind a tree. My stomach dropped.
Justin followed us!
Rage filled my body. My heart began hurting and I felt my eyes water from just looking at him.
He couldn't just follow us. How was this possible?
"How did you.." Sam asked but was shortly cut off.
"Oh, I hope you don't mind but I looked through your stuff the other night while you were in the bathroom. And I got my father to get me out of school and he lives down the street from here and I just wanted to see if you two really ran away. I guess it's true." He walked closer to me but all I saw was him in a black hole burning to death.
"Well now you can go back to your dad's house and live a perfect life." I started turning around but he grabbed my arm and put up his finger.
"Sorry but that's not the way it's going to go. I am going to go with you or tell my dad where you two really are. And quick note, my father is chief of police. " He smiled. His smile though... STOP BECKY!
I mentally slapped my self.
"Look, Justin, you need to let go of Becky and you can stay about 20 yards behind us." Sam said.
"Nope." Justin laughed. "I brought you stuff to and I don't think they will do you any good if I'm far away."
I felt stuck. My stomach tightened up. We would he even want to come if he has a perfect life.
"Why do you even want to go?" I asked realizing he was still holding my hand. I tried to squirm my hand out of his grip. No use.
He just looked at me and let my hand go.
"So where we going anyway?" He asked.
"I thought you said you knew?" Sam crossed his arms.
"I know the way your going I just don't know why you have to stop at someplace out of the way."
"Well I need things from there." Sam just continued to look at the maps.
"Can we just go?!" I yelled. I just wanted away from Justin and the fact that Sams OK with this is just. I mean we really don't have to much of a choice but there has to be something, anything.
