War

Gone off to war.
Went to fight a battle that was never really yours
Saw people hurt and die because you couldn't keep living
Your own life.
Went to war.
Grenades killed. Soon your friends became your enemies. Allies betrayed.
Saw the war.
Saw how one life affected one million
And how millions affected one.
Saw the tears and the missing, but never really missed those tears.
Never really saw the wanting to go back, but rather just missing.
Missing and wanting, saw that too.
Cried during the war.
Cried at the thought, time's up
Cried knowing that being alive tomorrow wasn't an option
Then realised, it isn't for everyone.
Found the war.
Found the same thing happening years after years.
Found you could tell the difference between wanting the pain
And having pain.
Found the lies and the truth you ran from when you went off.
Off to war.
Left the war.
Left the fighting, the constant battle.
Left the thinking and the questioning but
Betrayed
Through determination.
But broke an oath, a promise.
Left the constant battle,
A battle that was never really yours but still called
Out claiming to be yours.
Wish you were here
They said during the war.
They were the war.
