"It was fine, Jess. It was. You're the kind of girl guys like to like, not spread rumors about. You're the nice girl, the kind that becomes a cheerleader".

I was sitting at the pep rally, watching the cheerleaders perform. "Now, this year's starting line up..." Bryce started, "Willem Barclay!", "Zach Dempsey!", "Justin Foley!". Justin didn't show up, as Jessica looked embarrassed. "Anders Anderson!". Jessica left as me and Clay went to follow. "How could you do this to me? Call me back, or at least text me" Jessica said through the phone. "Jessica?" Clay called. "What Clay?! What do you want?!" She asked. "We need to talk" he said. "No we don't" She argued. "Yes we do Jess" I said. "We have to tell someone about Justin, like Mr. Porter" Clay said. "Clay really? No we don't" I said. "Mr. Porter, really? That's a fantastic idea" she said sarcastically. "Does he know about the tapes?" Clay asked. "I will say it one more time, keep your mouth shut, got it" Jessica said. "Jess---" "Back of Clay! Leave me alone" Jessica said, leaving.

"When Jessica has something on her mind, she lets you know. And I knew what she wanted to talk about. Alex's list".

I was walking home when I noticed Alex. "Alex!" I called. "Hey" He said. I didn't say anything, just looked around. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Um... I-I" I stuttered. "Are you okay?" He asked again. "I gotta go" I said, leaving. It didn't feel right. Talking to him as a friend knowing what he did to Hannah.

When I got home, there was a note in the refrigerator:

I sighed, going to my room. I laid back on my bed, continuing the tape.

"You see, that's just how it works in high school. Boys talk, girls listen... and everything gets messed up. Or at least that's how it was for us. Right, Jess."

Flashback

I was sitting in Monet's with Jessica, waiting for Hannah. "You must really be mad at her" I said. Hannah came and sat down. "F.M.L.?" Hannah questioned. "I should have known" Jessica started, "I know the rumors, Hannah".

"Everyone knows the rumors" I added. "Well, you can't know rumors. You can hear them, but you can't know them" Hannah said. "We were friends" Jessica said. "We all were" I said. "How could you betray me like that?" Jessica questioned. "Like what? What did I do?" Hannah questioned.

"Hannah you know" I said to Hannah. "I don't!" She argued . "Is it you and Alex now?" Jessica asked. "No! How could you even-- of course not. He likes you, you like him. I'm the one who's out" She argued. "Yeah, and that pissed you off, didn't it?" Jessica poked. "A little... I mean... it mad me sad" She said. "It made you jealous" I corrected for her.
