"You really want to do this Nicole?" My brother asked me.
"Yes, I have to go. I can't stay here anymore. I feel mom doesn't want me in her house anymore and apparently your dad is on the same side as her."
My brother Justin who was a year younger than me.
"This early. You can't wait till I graduate it's only four more months."
"No, you see what just happened in there. They don't want me here. They want you, and as long as she's fucking him, she don't give a fuck about me. He runs her!" I was speaking of my mom and her stupid excuse of a husband! Only thing I'm wanted for is bragging right because she wants to look good."
"Aleesha please hold out for me?" He called me by my middle name.
"I can't Justin, I promise you this, let me get to where I'm going, get settled. Graduate college, after graduation I'm taking you with me!" His face lit up, to be honest he needed a fresh start himself. It was going to happen. Next May.
"That's a bet" I gave my brother a hug as I got in the car.
"Keep ya head up" Justin said.
"Don't get caught slippin"
I left in my White Ford Fiesta, I put on my playlist that was 14h 29m long. This was going to be a breeze. I dialed my my roommates number as she answered on the first ring.
"Yes ma'am."
"I'll be waiting." She hung up the phone as my music resumed playing on my car. I cruised on down the highway as my brother kept his promise and called in every hour! Just as I crossed over the Florida State lines I began to get excited. I was reaching Tallahassee Florida so that meant only 8 more hours until I reach Miramar. I stopped to get me something to eat and hen headed back down the road.
Florida's turnpike 💙.
Eight hours later I was pulling into my roommates parents house.  It was going on 5:15pm, I was getting out of my car.
"Amira!" I said as she ran to me and gave me a hug!  She hugged me so tight!
"Girl. I'm so glad you got out of there. All of that arguing with your mother and father is unhealthy."
"Yeah. Let's just see how far this goes."
"Well good news already, I work for this call center, we take calls for he various offices for Miami Medical Center, anyways, I have gotten YOU a interview with one of my supervisors tomorrow."
I smiled. Amira always had my back. Every since we met in College in Tennessee.
"Thanks so much! You're appreciated and loved!" I gave her another hug, as I walked in. Her mom Tamantha came from the kitchen.
"Hey Nicki baby! I'm so glad you here. When Amira told me you were coming, I was so excited. So you're here for good."
"Yes ma'am."
"Im proud of you. Now these parents of yours?" Her mom had a thick Jamaican Accent, she was a sweetheart. Very beautiful. About 5'7 , milk Carmel skin.
"They're-, my mom believes everything her husband says, I really just give up. I went back to school, I graduated in May it's damn near pushing December and you're mad because, you're husband is a drug addict, and I call him out on being one every time."
"And she's takes his side."
"Everytime! I even told her I caught him, she still believes him. I just hope my brother Justin can stay there because this break needs to fly by for him."
"I agree. How does your brother feel?"
"He's trying to ignore it and be strong but I see him breaking. I seen it today when I pulled out of the drive way. He called me every hour till I got here. Once I told him I was here, he finally told him self he could sleep."
"Your brother is so sweet. He loves his sister."
"Yes ma'am. Amira, what we doing tomorrow night. It's Florida and it's hot."
"Well I've upgraded my apartment to a two bed room since we've been communicating about you coming down here so we're going to get you settled in."
"With what I do have in my car. My brother said he would send what he can through fed ex clothes wise."
"Girl, I will get you some clothes! I can't have my second daughter out her looking like anyting"
"I know" I smiled. She was very generous such a beautiful soul.
"Look, it's only 5:45. Let's get you half way settled in. We're going out to eat and walk the strip tomorrow in South Beach."
"Okay, well come on let's get you to your NEW home, our home."
Treat me well Florida.
