My little sister shrieked as there was another earth shattering sound coming from the bottom of the pack house. I tried to calm her down but it was pretty difficult since you could hear blood curdling screams. I wanted nothing more than to cover my ears and cry into my mother's embrace, but I knew I had to be strong for my sister.
Unfortunately, I think the boom sound was the rogues somehow getting into our safe room.
We are experiencing our first real rogue attack. We have the standard fire and earthquake drills, but we also have rogue drills. The warriors get in to their hiding spot before they attack while the rest of the house goes into the safe room. My sister and I didn't notice the alarm since we were outside so we settled for our bedroom on the top floor to hide in.
Suddenly, it went quiet. It hasn't been this silent in over an hour. Something's not right.
I slowly unwrapped my arms from my sisters trembling body, and stepped towards my bedroom door. I twisted the handle and peeked through the small slit I made, so only one of my eyes were visible, and saw some wolves walking around. But I immediately knew that they were rogues by how they behaved and how they looked.
They had a mangy coat of fur, with a lot of chunks missing. Fleas, maggots and all that nasty stuff is no doubt stuck in their hair. I know rogues are sometimes pretty thin, due to the fact that there is sometimes not enough food in the forest, or they just can't find any, but these guys were scrawny. Like, ribs and other sorts of bones were protruding out through their skin.
They were walking around mounds of dead bodies, with blood coating their muzzles and paws, leaving bloody paw prints wherever they went. I could identify most of the faces of the bodies. Knowing that my pack was slaughtered just down stairs from my sister and I, was enough for me to start panicking. But, there was another problem on top of the rogue raid.
There was fire. Everywhere. The smoke started to make its way up and into my room, forcing a cough out of my sisters mouth and a few quiet ones out of mine.
We had to get out of here and going through the main room was not an option. The rogues were slowly making their way up the stairs just as I closed the door as quickly and quietly as I could.
I locked the door and put a chair under the knob just in case. I stuffed the bottom of the door with some dirty clothes, to keep the smoke from coming in. Then, I grabbed a duffle bag and filled it with my water bottle and some spare change of clothes. My sister sat quietly on my bed, watching me fuss around and grab anything and everything that could help us.
Come on. I mouthed to my sister and motioned her forward. Her light hazel eyes were filled with tears and her chin wobbled as she crossed the room in seconds and latched on to my arm.
I wish I could say that everything was going to be okay, but I didn't know myself. Luckily, I had a window in my room that we could escape from. I opened it and threw my duffle bag almost two stories down. I grabbed the ledge and hauled myself out the window and mentally counted to three before letting go.
I felt a burst of pain through my left ankle as I landed and hissed quietly. Werewolves heal pretty fast, faster than humans, but I haven't shifted yet. You shift into your wolf at the age of 15, but I was just 13. I don't heal as fast as older wolves, but I do heal a little bit quicker than a human.
I ignored my throbbing ankle and held my arms out for my sister. She had to jump out of the window as I did or else she's toast. She looked very scared and was shaking as well and it only increased my fear.
