You awkwardly knock on the door and wait. Benedict had told you to meet him here on set so he could have lunch with you.
Ever since you had started maternity leave he didn't like the idea of you being alone. Now you were three days late he was especially anxious to have you around, convinced that the second he left you would go into labour. But you hadn't and it was starting to get very uncomfortable.
"Y/N you came! Is everything ok? You still feeling alright? Do you think the baby might come today?"
Benedict was talking in a rush as soon as he had opened the door and you could tell from his expression that he was anxious. You had to adopt a reassuring tone to calm him down.
"Hi, yep everything's fine. Can I come in?"
"Oh. Yeah, of course." Your husband holds the door open for you and you step inside his trailer.
It's a bit of a mess with pages of script, mugs and various books scattered across both the sofa and the coffee table. As you sit down, a particular title catches your notice.
'The Ultimate Guide: First time Dads!'
Taking another glance, you see that all the books are on parenting. Catching your eye, Ben picks up the books and papers and moves them elsewhere under the pretence of making room for your lunch. You don't comment as the tips of his ears have turned pink. He's embarrassed.
"So, you didn't answer my last question."
Benedict comes and sits next to you, taking your hand in his. His eyes are fixed on yours.
"Do you think it could be today?"
His deep voice is full of hope and you smile at him, resting your head on his shoulder.
"I don't know, maybe."
He releases your hand and starts to lightly trace his forefinger across your bump. You lean back against the pillows and watch him.
"May I?" Ben asks, gesturing towards the hem of your shirt.
You simply smile and nod. He lifts the t-shirt over your swollen stomach and moves to kneel down in front of you. His cold palms are placed on the bump and he slowly moves his hands around, looking for a reaction. As usual, his face is earnest and intent whilst waiting for the baby to kick. You stay like that for a few long moments until a muffled voice calls for everyone to get back on set.
As you both stand up, a sudden feeling rushes over you and you stumble against Ben. He wraps an arm round you as you confirm that, yes your waters have broken.
"It's starting," you say and look up at your husband.
Benedict springs into action, grabbing a bag from behind a door and steering you out of the trailer with his hand placed gently on the small of your back. There's no time for nerves. He leads you through the set and into the passenger seat of his car.
"I'll be just a second. I'm just going to pop and tell everyone that I'm leaving."
Ben kisses you on the forehead, shuts the car door and jogs off. A grin is plastered all over his face.
