I apologise for the title but I couldn't resist the pun! Please enjoy and comment or vote if you like it :)

Today was finally here! Tonight you were going to the launch party of your best friends new instalment of her book series and it's a big deal. It was 'buy a fancy dress' big. There were even rumours of celebrity appearances.

The day went by slowly but then suddenly it was 5 'o' clock. Time to get ready. You shower and take your time getting dressed, savouring the luxury. Soon your makeup and hair have been perfected and you take a glance in your bedroom mirror, smiling at the total effect. Your phone buzzes from inside your clutch bag. It's your best friend.

Hurry up amigo! It's amazing here!!!! People are flooding through the doors :D

You laugh at your phone. You knew it would be packed, the first four of her books were bestsellers and this one wasn't going to be any different. The cab honks it's horn outside, signalling its arrival and you nearly trip down the stairs in a haste to clamber inside.

At the party

The swanky club was indeed very full and you're glad you didn't come underdressed. There were women in flouncy dresses everywhere and all the men were wearing suits. You hear the tinkling laugh of your friend and make your way towards the sound.

"Y/N! You're finally here!"

She is standing in a small group and as she embraces you, you take a quick glance at them. Two men are standing in suits and a woman smiles kindly at you. She is pretty, with pale blonde hair to her chin. The two men are opposites. One is short and blonde with a broad nose and the other is tall and dark haired with piercing eyes. Releasing you from her vice-like grip, your friend introduces you.

"Y/N this is Amanda, Martin and Benedict. Guys, this is Y/N."

They all say hello and the conversation happily resumes. Quite quickly you find out you have no idea what they are discussing. A smooth baritone appears next to your ear.

"Your friend is telling us about her writing process and her inspiration for the book."

It's Benedict. He's leaning over to whisper in your ear.You grin at him gratefully and put your mouth close to his ear.

"I would escape while you can, we could be here all night."

He chuckles and you realise that the other three have stopped talking. Your friend is grinning at you and you notice Martin has a twinkle in his eye as he turns towards Benedict.

"Something funny?"

Benedict glances over at you before replying.

"No, no nothing.. We were just chatting."

"Well go chat over there then. You're putting us off!"

Again they continue their conversation and you and Benedict walk over to one of the clubs many booths.

"I feel like a naughty school kid that's just been punished," Benedict laughs.

You cant help but laugh too, his smile is so infectious. And actually, pretty cute.

The two of you spent the next twenty minutes laughing and chatting until Martin comes and drags him away to talk to someone. Sitting on your own, you realise that you should do something and get up to get a drink. It's clear that many others thought this too and because it's a free bar, it was insanely jammed. You're in the midst of the crowd when your vision starts to go blurry and soon you feel the world slip from under your feet and darkness washes over you.

When you wake, you're sitting in the passenger seat of a car. The driver is Benedict. He sees you looking and smiles reassuringly.

"Hey, sorry about this. You passed out so I offered to drive you home. Your friend gave me the address. You ok?"

"Yeah, I think so. Why didn't you stay? I'm sure you could have called a cab."

"And what if you hadn't woke up? The poor cabbie would have no idea what to do!"

You laugh. "Yeah I suppose so. Sorry for spoiling your evening."

"You didn't."

Benedict is staring at you and though he is smiling, you feel butterflies in the pit of your stomach. It's strange and tense but most of all it's exciting. The atmosphere is so charged that for a second you think he just might kiss you. And you're certain that you wouldn't mind that at all. But all too soon he looks away at the road. A few minutes later the car pulls up outside your house.

You're just reaching for the door handle and babbling a goodbye when he interrupts.

"Y/N wait. I was wondering if we could exchange numbers, keep in contact? I mean if you don't want to..." he trails off lamely.

"I would love to."

You both type your numbers into the others phone and then it really is time for you to go. You give a little finger wiggle as you walk up to your house and he beams and waves back. Even though your back is turned, he waits for you to get safely inside before driving off. Tonight was an excellent night.
