Hide and seek

You watched as the three year old sped off into another room before running back in. Ella finally found a place to hide (she was behind the bookcase). You watch her and give a little wave from behind your laptop. She grins back and tells you to sssshhh.

A second later, Ben comes charging in the room.

"I'm coming to find you!"

He looks at you. You know the drill so you subtly signal at the bookcase. He now knows to look there in a little while. He nods quickly and starts to check round the room, keeping a running commentary as he goes.

"Is she behind the curtain? No.

Is she under the table? No."

You can hear Ella giggling from her hiding place and eventually there's only one place left. Ben looks around drmatically, scratching his head.

"Now where on earth could Ella be? I'm sure I've looked everywhere. Mummy do you know where she is?"

You laugh joining in his act.

"No I haven't a clue. Have you tried behind the bookcase?"

"Good idea honey."

You watch Ella's face grinning as her dad peers round the bookcase. She screams and tries to run away from Ben but he catches her and scoops her up in his arms.

"I win!" he says, pretending to be all smug as she squirms and wriggles in his arms.

"Only cause Mummy said" she huffs.

"That's right. Maybe I'll give you to mummy then."

He drops her on the sofa and you put your laptop on the coffee table. Your little girl snuggles into your side. Ben collapses onto the sofa on the other side of you and does the same. You put your arms round the two of them.
