A Little Kindness For a Dead Girl

Bethany walked the lonely streets, her feet barely touching the ground. Sometimes she wished that she had never wondered what was in that cabinet. She wouldn't be dead if she hadn't. Being dead did have its perks, but overall, it was boring. She kept thinking about the expression on Allen's face. She relished the sight. She wondered what her mother would say, If she were here. Was he always like that? Did she know before she was gone? Was she okay with it? What if he killed her like he did Bethany. She would have to look into that. Bethany was sure that he would spill his guts if she were creative enough. Though, he did look pale and scared enough with just seeing her. It wouldn't take much, then.
Bethany wanted to go visit him, but to be purely honest, she was afraid. She knew he couldn't kill her again, that wasn't the problem. She was just afraid to see him. She was afraid to face him because she still had something in her that still screamed "He's your father! He's your father!"
He might still be her father, but she wasn't his daughter. She may be dead, but she still cared about people. Even Allen. Even when they didn't care about her. Like Allen.
Bethany had never been the type to believe in ghosts. But, for that matter, she had never really believed that her father would kill someone to keep a stupid secret. But life is like that sometimes. You get surprised. Bethany remembered how her life used to be and realized for the first time that Allen had more control over her life than should a normal parent. She had always assumed that he was so hard on her because of her mother dying but she was wrong. So was so very wrong. But, so was Allen.
Bethany had a sudden hit of a memory. A boy. He had spoken to her at a church service, a few months before her death. He had been her age, and very cute, she remembered. She couldn't help but wonder how he would react if she went to see him. She was sure that she could find him. She might have to look awhile, but she would find him. She tried to picture their conversation together and decide from that how his response would be. He had seemed sweet and smart. And a touch of crazy.
Yeah. He wouldn't freak if he saw her. He would be happy to see her. And for once, other than Amber, she would be shown a little kindness.
