Cedric James was cleaning the tables in the city's famous diner when Bethany floated up.

"Hey, Cedric." she said softly.

Cedric jumped at the sound of her voice. When he turned to face her, both his jaw and the rag in his hand dropped. "Bethany? Bethany Goldberg?" he asked in disbelief. "You're dead."

She nodded and giggled. "Yes, Cedric."

"But-but-but-" he stammered. "You're.... ghost.."

Bethany laughed lightly. "Yes, Cedric." she moved closer. "Did you miss me?"

He stared at her, wide-eyed. Bethany began to think that he had been somehow frozen in time, when he moved his mouth. "I-i-i did. I think." he shook his head to clear it. "I don't know, Bethany."

Bethany looked at the floor. "You weren't at my funeral, Cedric. How am i supposed to feel about that? How am i supposed to know you really cared about me, when YOU WEREN'T EVEN THERE TO TELL ME GOODBYE!" she began to yell, letting her anger seep out through her words.

She had missed him the most but there was something in her that made her miss him the least. Her and Cedric had been very close at one time, so close that they were even a "thing" at one point. But it didn't last long, Cedric got bored of Bethany's ways. That's why she was here.

Cedric bent down to pick up the rag he had dropped and Bethany floated down to watch him. Half of her body was below the floor, the other half above. When Cedric looked at her, noticing her position, Bethany saw fear flash briefly in his eyes.

Why was HE afraid of HER?

Bethany studied his face, and for a split second, she missed being alive. She missed the ability to touch someone and they feel more than a cold touch. She wanted to touch his face again, to feel his face under her fingers. But she didn't want to chill him. She didn't want to make him cold. Colder.

"So, um, why are you here, Bethany?" He finally asked, gulping before saying her name. Bethany almost smiled at the stammer, the difficulty he had in saying her name, because she knew that he too had not forgotten.

Bethany did smile and without realizing it, touched him. She thought that he would react to her touch just as everyone else had, but she was shocked to find that he didn't seem to have felt any chill whatsoever.

Bethany thought that this was strange.

But Bethany also realized that he could be a big help in catching her father, too. Of course, Cedric would have spend some time in jail for what he did to her -- she wanted THAT out too -- but still, she thought, he could help me.

And he would help her -- if he valued his sanity.
