Chase's POV
Zoey started collapsing, and Bree sped over to her before her head hit the floor. I ran over to her.
"No no no," I murmured, turning on my bionic eye scan. Thankfully, the injection hadn't made it much past her elbow.
"Bree, get one of the bionic signal interrupters," I said, and she grabbed the glowing blue apparatus. I attached it to her upper arm, hopefully stopping the bionics from spreading.
"Okay," Bree said, "I know that these next gen bionics are really dangerous. But what's so bad about them?"————— Flashback —————
"What was so important that you had to drag me out of school for it?" I whined, a bit pissed off, as I entered the lab. I mean, I did get to walk Zoey to class and all, but schoooool!
"Chase, you wouldn't believe what I just found," Mr. Davenport said, gesturing me over to the cyber desk.
"Wait a minute," I gasped as I read through the code, "Are these Zoey's bionics?"
"Not quite," Mr. Davenport said, "It's the second generation of them. Douglas left it laying around in his lab."
"So what are waiting for!" I exclaimed, "They could have a missing puzzle piece that Zoey needs!"
"I would agree," Mr. Davenport said, "But there's a catch. Look here."
I looked at where he pointed, and realized what he was talking about.
"The Triton App," I said, "Douglas was gonna install the Triton App with the second version."
"And he intertwined the app with the upgrade so much that I can't get rid of the app without completely messing up the program," Mr. Davenport explained, "Chase, I need your help."
"Okay, I know how hard that was to say," I said, walking over to the cyber desk, archiving a copy of the upgrade, "I guess we delete the app, and figure it out from there."————— Reality —————
"We've worked out some of the problems," I finished explaining, "But there's still life threatening broken code in there."
"So she's gonna die?" Bree asked, scared.
"She might," I confirmed, gravely.
"But she might live," Bree said, hopefully. She sped off, and returned a couple seconds later with Adam, Leo, and Mr. Davenport.
"Bree, you're explanation of 'something happened we have to go' didn't give me anyyaaahhhhh!" Leo shouted, upon seeing Zoey collapsed on the floor, "Why didn't you tell me that Zoey was collapsed on the floor!"
"Because I didn't have time!" Bree panted.
"What happened?" Mr. Davenport asked.
"Zoey injected herself with the second version," Chase said.
"Well how did she find out?" Mr. Davenport shouted, "And why didn't you stop her?!?"
"You know that girl!" Chase defended, "When she sets her mind to something, there's no stopping her!"
"Stop!" Adam yelled, causing everyone to shut up, "You lied to her that's why! And you lied to me too! And now, instead of trying to fix the problem, you're pointlessly yelling among yourselves about it! So shut up and do something!"We all looked at each other, paralyzed, while Adam looked like he was gonna punch us all through the wall. After a couple seconds, he brought up the chip file on the cyber desk, and dragged Mr. Davenport and I over to it.
"Do. Something." he growled.————— Ten Minutes Later—————
"This is the closest we're gonna get," I said, "Not perfect, but we don't have time for that."
"So? What do we do now!?" Bree asked.
Davenport answered her question while pushing a button, "Once the serum is synthesized, we just have to inject it into Zoey."
Bree walked over to the slowly filling syringe, looking up and down in panic.
"Is there any way to get this to go faster?" she asked.
"Guys, she's shaking," Leo announced, who hadn't left Zoey's side since Bree sped him in.
"It's done," Chase said, and Bree, not skipping a beat, grabbed the syringe and sped it over to Zoey, jamming it into her. Except the syringe didn't go in.
"What going on?" Bree asked, looking at me, "It won't go in!"
I scanned Zoey, and my heart sank.
"Guys, the bionic signal interrupter didn't work," I said, "The way that the bionics are fused to her bloodstream, the interrupters don't block the signal. It's spread all throughout her body, and it's making her shape shifting glitch-"
"And her skin's impenetrable," Leo assumed. He ran over to the cyber desk along with Bree.
"What do we do now?" Leo asked.
"We didn't just rescue her from Douglas to loose her again," Bree said. I tried to think, but even my super intelligence couldn't think of a solution. I hung my head.
