Normal Life

I couldn't sleep,  so I decided to take a walk. Never thought that walk would lead me down a path that showed my boyfriend screwing another woman. I guess that's what lead us here to the great city of New Orleans. Marcel told us it would be a move, that would benefit us more than the others. We didn't know what the hell he was talking about, but to be honest we never did. The we I refer to is my brother, Chase but, I call him catch, for fun, and I, Elizabeth.

I was given to Marcel to protect at age five and never returned home. I don't know if they wanted me gone or died, but my birth parents never came looking for me. To me that was OK, I had Marcel and Chase, but to both Marcel and Chase I needed to find out about them, they said it would help with the pain of not knowing. I personally don't know what pain there talking about.

So as we pack up to move, I pick up a box Marcel packed and an envelope fell out of it. Me being nosy I picked up the envelope and was going to open it before reading my name on the front. In that moment I felt the pain. The pain of not knowing if they cared or not, I felt this because I knew the envelope contained a letter from my birth parents. Marcel tried to give it to me many of times before, but I kept giving it back to him saying I didn't want it, and I didn't. I didn't want to read what was inside, so it could conform what I thought to be true.

"Whats that?" Chase said walking up behind me and setting a box down on the table in front of me.

"It's a letter from "them". I said, knowing he knew who I was talking about.

"Do you want me to read it first?" He asked looking at me then the envelope.

"Um, yeah sure." I said handing it to him.

He opened it than took out the letter. As he did though a paper fell out and fell to the ground. I picked it up and saw a picture on the other side.

"This must be them." I said looking at the photo of a woman with dark brown hair, wearing a red shirt and blue jeans, as she stood by a man with short dark brown hair , wearing a black jacket. It looked like he was all dressed up to go somewhere fancy. As I keep looking at the photo Marcel walks in and sighs.

"So you opened it this time?" He asks as I look up. He looked sad and I didn't understand why until I felt a tear at the edge of my lips.

"I'm fine" I said trying to convince myself more than him.

"OK. Well were almost ready to go once Chase and you put these boxes in the van." Marcel stated walking up to me hugging me and walking out the door he came in.

"What's it say?" I ask Chase as he finally looks up from the letter.

"Um, I think you should read it." He said kissing the top of my head, handing me the letter and envelope before walking out the same door Marcel did, probable carrying his box outside to the van.

I took the box and the envelope before following the guys outside saying good-bye to my home and hello to my new one. I sadly got to the van to late and had to sit in the back the whole ride, but that gave, me time to decide on weather or not to read the letter. I chose to read it and now I regret it.

"Elizabeth,

If you are reading this that means you have not come home yet. We didn't abandon you sweetie I hope you know that. We loved you so much that we made a decision that we didn't like to keep you safe. We will see each other again and until than keep this letter by you at all times to remind you that we love you and enjoy your new found normal life.

                                                                                                                Love,

                                                                                             Your family, the Mikaelsons."

I read the letter three times before putting it away I kept thinking, what did the letter mean by normal life.
