Chapter 17

Hermione's POV.

When Harry walks into the great hall for breakfast, it's obvious that something is up.

His hair is even more rumpled than usual, his tie is on completely wrong, and he's fidgeting obsessively.

"Harry..? How are you feeling?" I question hesitantly after he's been eating quietly for a few minutes.

He looks up and me, looks down at his food, and drops his head onto the Gryffindor table with a slight bang.

Ginny looks my way with widened eyes and I shrug, not having any idea what's happening in his head.

"Harry?" I nudge him slightly.

He moans then looks up, still leaving his chin on his crossed arms.

"What, 'Mione?"

"Are you.. what's happened?"

He only grunts and lies his head down again.

I look around me, wondering who all has seen him in his state of distress.

My eyes glide over the Slytherin table, but quickly look back to latch onto another student who seems to be in a similar state of distress.

Oh.

Of course this would have something to do with Malfoy.

"Harry, is something going on? Is it about the dark marks?!" I question frantically, keeping my voice down.

He shakes his head slightly, which is still residing on his crossed arms.

"Then..."

"I made a mistake Hermione!" He snaps.

"A stupid.. stupid mistake," he continues.

What happened?

"Um.. do you want to.. to tell me about it?"

"No," he mumbles.

He then begins telling me about it.

"I've ruined everything!" He cries, "Not just with Malfoy, with all the Slytherins."

Back to last names? Must be bad.

"Harry, it couldn't be all that bad," I whisper, trying to be reassuring.

"I kissed him, 'Mione!" He shouts.

Students from nearby tables glance at us curiously and begin passing on the words.

Ron quickly looks up from his spot near Dean and Seamus.

Harry's eyes widen, realising how loud he spoke.

"I.. uh,
I k- kissed him, Hermione," he repeats in a whisper.

Merlin.

That has to have put a strain on their relationship.
