Sorry this has been delayed, school has been keeping me really busy since I only have a week and three days left. Anyway...yeah, enjoy!
As soon as Signe stepped out the door of Starbucks, she scanned the crowd walking by in hopes of spotting the man she handed the wallet to. She was sorely disappointed to find nothing but a sea of black and white once again, making him blend in easily with the crowd.
If he was even in the crowd.
With a sigh, she ran a hand through her hair as she tried to decide if what she saw was real or if it was her imagination. She wanted to believe with all of her heart since for the first time the world seemed...alive.
Signe whipped out her phone to call her friend Amy so she could fill her in on what happened.
"Hey, what's up?" Amy answered, her voice sounding slightly staticky through her phone. Since Signe lived in Denmark and Amy lived in LA, the reception wasn't always the best.
"You know those stories I used to tell you about that when you met your soulmate, you would see colors?" Signe asked.
"How could I forget? You told me them daily." Amy giggled.
"I think I just found my soulmate." Signe admitted.
"What?!?" Amy squealed loud enough that Signe's ears hurt as she winced and pulled the phone away a little bit.
"Do you know him? What's he look like? Is he Danish too? Do you have a picture? Can-"
"Slow down girl!" Signe exclaimed to cut her off, slightly overwhelmed by the amount of questions.
"I don't know him, he's really pale, his accent didn't sound Danish, and I don't have a picture of him." Signe answered all of her questions.
"No fair!" Amy pretended to pout. Signe could imagine the fake scowl on her face.
"I'll call you if I see him again." Signe promised her.
"Okay, good luck!" Amy exclaimed before hanging up.
Signe stuffed the phone back into her pocket, her mind still whirling as she started walking towards the train. She didn't have a destination in mind, but she did know that she wanted to spend a little more time away from home.
It was the weekend, meaning that she didn't have work thankfully. She worked at a salon, which was alright.
She shoved her hands deep into her light gray coat pockets, wrapping her mustard colored scarf tighter around her neck as she walked through the station to a train that was heading to Sweden, which was only an hour away.
She felt her heart skip a beat when she spotted a familiar person jogging by.
It was the man from Starbucks.
She started jogging as well, millions of questions running through her brain as she tried to decide which ones to ask him first.
She realized he was running because the train leaving for Sweden was about to depart.
Is he Swedish?, Signe wondered as she struggled to catch up with him.
She was a beat too late.
As soon as he jumped onto the train with his black suitcase, the doors closed and the train left the station.
Once again, Signe lost him.
She grumbled a couple of curse words in Danish before trudging out of the station to go back home.
"Saw him again." Signe told Amy once she picked up.
"Why aren't you talking to him then?" Amy asked in confusion.
"He just took a train to Sweden that left without me." Signe muttered in mild annoyance.
"Then follow him, he's your soulmate, you only find one of those!" Amy pointed out.
"I can't, I have work tomorrow." Signe explained.
"Take a break." Amy instructed.
"I guess I could talk to my boss..." Signe trailed off, already trying to decide what she'd say to her. Her boss was nice to a limit that could easily be exceeded if you say the wrong thing.
"That's the spirit! Now go find you colors!" Amy encouraged Signe before she hung up once again.
Signe ran back home and hastily crammed clothes, money, and other necessities into her suitcase before racing back to the train station, barely making it on time to jump onto the last train heading towards Sweden.
I hope I'm doing the right thing, Signe thought as she rested her head against the window and quickly fell asleep to the rumbling of the train.
