"Nat!" The snapping of Scarlet's fingers in front of my face abruptly brought me back to reality, and I sighed as I stood up off my couch, completely ignoring her as she continued to grill me about how I knew Chris "Chris Evans... Nat. Explain."

"Nothing to explain Lette. He let me borrow his jacket and then we went out for coffee... and maybe he showed up at the bar last night... and gave me the best hug of my life..." I trailed off, knowing full well that Scarlet had heard the last little bit by the smile that was forming on her face "He's leaving for a month to film... and I'll likely never see or hear from him again, so let's just forget it all happened ok?" Her lips formed into a tight line as she nodded at me, thankfully not pushing the subject any further, and I collapsed back onto the couch next to her, picking up the tv remote and pushing play on the movie that we had started "I don't need to set myself up for disappointment again... you of all people should understand that Scarlet..."

"Hello?" My phone had woken me up in the middle of the night, or early in the morning... I wasn't even sure. And I wouldn't have answered it, but when Chris's name had flashed across the screen...

I sat up, slowly swinging my legs over the edge of my bed, rubbing my tired eyes with my right hand, listening to the quiet sound of Chris's breathing on the other end of the phone "I just... I wanted to... hear... your voice." His words were broken, slurred even, and I let out a loud sigh, holding my phone away from my face to see what time it was.

"You're drunk Chris. And it's 2:30 in the morning... I'm going to hang up, and go back to sleep... if you're lucky you won't remember doing this..." I clicked my phone off, tossing it back onto my nightstand and laying back against my pillow. I was surprisingly able to fall back asleep almost instantly, into the most restful sleep I'd had in what felt like months...

*a few weeks later*

"I'll finish and lock up if you want to leave Alex..." He nodded at me, tossing the dirty rag he was holding into the laundry bucket. I watched as the last few people got up from their seats after I'd called a taxi for them, and I breathed a sigh of relief as I walked around the corner of the bar towards the front door so I could lock the doors and go home.

"Mind if I get a drink?" My head snapped up to find Chris standing in the doorway, his right hand resting inside the pocket of his dark jeans. I found myself unable to answer him, my mouth opening and closing several times, but no words would come out.

"What ya drinking?" I finally managed to mutter after ushering him inside and locking the door behind the both of us. He settled into the same chair he'd sat in the last time I'd seen him, both of his hands coming to rest on top of the bar. Chris leaned back, his eyes seeming to study my every move as I grabbed him a cold beer out of the cooler, popping the cap off and watching it land on the floor. He picked up the bottle, taking a small sip and then setting it back down on the napkin I had pushed towards him.

"I was hoping you'd be working tonight..."

"I haven't heard from you for almost a month, not a peep since..." I shook my head, leaning myself back against the bar, my hands fidgeting with the bottom of my apron "You guys done filming or? Just on a break..."

"I've got a couple weeks off, while they build another piece of the set... can I ask you something Natalie? I haven't stopped thinking about you, the entire time I was in Georgia..." Chris took another drink, nearly emptying the bottle before setting it down and wiping his mouth with the end of his sleeve "I've figured it out. The reason I'm so drawn to you." He stood up and walked around the end of the bar, and I wanted to back away from him, but my body seemed to be frozen in place.

"And what's..." I was cut off, when Chris's lips were suddenly against my own, his fingers quickly entangling in my hair, my own hands fumbling for something to hold onto as he deepened the kiss, both of us moving backwards until my back hit the tall cabinet that held our most expensive liqueurs. When he finally pulled away from me, both of us breathing heavily, my hands had come to rest at some point against his chest and I let them drop down... my heart was pounding, my mind racing a million miles a second. Chris's right hand was still touching my cheek, his thumb wiping away the few tears that had inadvertently began to fall.

Chris walked me home, and both of us had seemingly chosen not to mention anything about the kiss, at least until we got to my front door. I leaned against the doorframe, fidgeting with my keys in my trembling right hand, my mind still awash with everything that had happened earlier... the suddenness of the kiss, and the way it had made me feel. The way it had awakened something in me, something so raw, so visceral...

"Do you want to come in... maybe have another drink?" I unlocked my door, but was stopped by Chris's hand on my arm before I could enter my apartment. He sighed as he turned me around to face him, his bright blue eyes staring directly into mine...

"You have no idea how much I want to follow you in there, and continue what I started back at the bar..." His fingers traced up my arm, causing a nervous shiver to snake over my entire body as I briefly looked away from his gaze "But I don't want to betray your trust. I don't want you to think I'm like every other guy. I want to know more about you, why you seem to have built up these walls around yourself..."
