CHAPTER FOURTEEN

THE ALTERNATIVE ENDING

LIGHT blinded hoseok's eyes as he squinted them open.

when his sight adjusted to the lighting of the room, he realized it was quite dark, sun barely peaked through the thin curtains. the unusual brightness that flashed throughout the tiny bedroom, was now nowhere to be seen. with the back of his hand, hoseok rubbed his tired eyes, still feeling the exhaustion aching within his body.

a movement next to hoseok caused him to look down. even with messy hair, rosy cheeks, hyungwon always looked ethereal in the morning.

"good morning, angel," hoseok spoke, smile on his face.

the younger boy turned his face into the pillow, muttering something into the fabric, probably complaining about how it was still too early. hoseok shifted closer to him, placing a hand on his cheek. the sudden affectionate action made hyungwon finally meet hoseok's gaze, and both could see the reason why they continued living each day.

"you know what?" hoseok started, "we should stay in bed all day." he waited for hyungwon's response, watching as his eyes closed instead.

he assumed he had his answer- the two would spend the entire day at his home. though, as hoseok removed his hand from hyungwon's cheek, closed his eyes, ready to fall asleep again, the younger abruptly sat up in bed.

"i need to go back."

stay, hoseok wanted to plead, but he couldn't keep hyungwon from going back to his family.

he continued, "it's been two days, i miss them."

yet, for some odd reason, hoseok's mouth opened and words fell out: "just for one more day, please."

hyungwon shook his head lightly, facing away from him. hoseok didn't know what to say or do that would make him stay, but he felt like he needed to; that the safest place on earth was right with him.

impulsively, hoseok sat up, putting his hands on hyungwon's jawline, making the boy turn his head towards him. don't do it. but it didn't matter that his insides were catching fire, yelling at him that the other wouldn't feel the same, because he just leaned in, pressing his lips so softly against hyungwon's. he grew nervous that the boy might just push him away in disgust. so, when he felt hyungwon kissing back, hands gripping his t-shirt, he knew.

hyungwon felt the same way, and hoseok let out all his love into the kiss, knowing it was being returned.

he guided the younger down by placing a hand on his chest, pressing him against the mattress. hyungwon's hands moved from hoseok's shirt, now holding his hips. hoseok kissed him gently, acting as if they had all the time in the universe to be like that with each other, and in the moment, it really did feel like they had forever.

he moved his lips to hyungwon's neck, scattering kisses over the exposed skin. he muttered, "stay with me."

breathlessly, the other whispered, "don't do that, it'll make me never want to leave here."

"live with me, then," hoseok blurted.

"seriously?"

"yes," hoseok kissed the corner of hyungwon's lips, then leaned back a bit. he said, "we could have our happy ending."

for the rest of the day, they remained in bed, ignoring the world outside the walls. it wasn't important, anyways, because all they needed was each other, and in the end they got that. legs tangled underneath the sheets, they talked about how they didn't mind living in that town anymore; about how they could still make a happy life with one another in a world that wasn't built for them. they were going to try to make it work.

and they were going to have their happy ending.
