Fifth Grade
Emily and I, were at lunch when the new girl arrived. She was being 'escorted' to the cafeteria. She had shoulder length hair and her clothes were kind of tacky. Emily looked at me, "Who's she?" I shrugged and finished eating my lunch. "I guess she's new," Emily continued, "never seen her before."
"Me neither. Where do you think she's from?", I asked as Emily played around with her fork in her food. We looked at her for a few more minutes. We looked at each other and shrugged. Clearly, we weren't the best at reading people we didn't know.
"I have no clue." Emily stated, "Probably from somewhere around here." I nodded figuring that, that was more than likely true. The town we lived in was fairly small, but I've never seen her before.

After our classes table was dismissed to throw away our leftover, half-eaten lunches, we all left for recess. Emily and I sat on the balance beam waiting for the other classes to come to the playground. When our teacher's, Mrs. G.'s, class came, we talked to the new girl and welcomed the new girl to our school.
"I'm Kailey and this is Emily." We smiled at her and asked her about herself. We found out that her name was Maci and she was from a small town, in our tiny city, called Elliot. She was a year older than Emily and me. But she was really short.
"I'm about 4'7," Maci had told us.
We had all became the best of friends. We hung out at recess everyday and swung on the swing sets and sometimes the merry-go-round. Sometimes, we argued about who got to swing on what swing. We could argue one minute and act like sisters the next. Our parents told us we were all different and that opposites attract, and that, that's why we're such great friends.
Or at least, that's what they thought.
