"Uhm, hey, did you paint that?" Sonny pointed to the large abstract design on the alley wall.
"Yeah." The other boy replied "why?"
"I just, I've seen a lot of stuff like that around and uhm, I just think that it's really cool." Sonny stuttered.
"Oh," the boy smiled down at the ground "well thank you, I'm Pete." He stuck his hand out.
"Sonny," he slowly shook his hand "my cousin told me to come and tell you to stop painting the wall of his shop but I think you should, it looks super cool."
"Well, thanks. How old are you?" Pete replied
"17, you?" Sonny said, fiddling with the rainbow bracelet that José gave him when he came out to him. José and Benny were the only ones that knew.
"18," Pete shrugged "cool bracelet, by the way. Are you gay?"
"Oh, uh... yeah." Sonny shrugged.
"That's cool, I don't really know who I am." Pete shrugged "but I definitely don't discriminate."
"Sonny! Your breaks over!" He heard Usnavi call for him.
"That's my cousin, I gotta go. I like you, we should hang out more." Sonny smiled at his new acquaintance.
Pete sighed. When Sonny was out of sight, he slid down the wall, sitting on the ground. He cursed under his breath. Damn he's cute...

"Where'd you go for lunch?" Usnavi asked his younger cousin.
Oh yeah... lunch. Sonny thought to himself. I forgot about that.
"Uhm... McDonalds?" Sonny lied. He knew how Usnavi felt about 'that little punk'
"Cool." Usnavi scrubbed the counter, trying his hardest to get all of the dust, dirt, and grime off of the surface.
Sonny walked over to the fridge, grabbing a Pepsi and setting his lunch money in the register. He popped the cap off, taking a hard swallow from the bottle.
"Ah...." he made a noise of refreshment, it was at least 100 degrees out today. His thoughts went to Pete.
He must be dying out there.
After that thought, Sonny felt his legs carry him over to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water and putting the rest his the money in the register.
"Hey cuz? I'm gonna go and uh... deliver something to... uhm... Abuela." Sonny tried his best to sound convincing.
"Sounds good. Be back in 10 please. It's almost closing time."
"Kay."
Sonny rushed out the door, returning to the alleyway where he met Pete.
"Back again, Sonny?" Pete smiled, setting his paint can down.
"Yeah, I uhm... I brought you a water because it's real hot out and I just thought that.. you wanna make sure you drink water so you don't pass out or anything while you're painting." Sonny explained, even though he knew in his mind that he was just looking for an excuse to see Pete again.
Pete felt himself blush. No one had ever thought about his wellbeing before.
"Well, thanks." Pete smiled wide, taking the water from Sonny and taking a large gulp from the bottle. "I feel better already."
Sonny let a small laugh escape from his mouth "You're welcome. Keep painting those pictures... they're real cool."
When Sonny turned his back, Pete felt his face flush a dark crimson. He prayed silently that this boy would not vanish from his life like all of the other people he'd met in his short 15 years.

"Cuz! I'm back!" Sonny called into the empty store. "Cuz?" He looked around, noticing that the sign on the front door had been flipped to closed. Sonny began to panic, until he noticed a little slip of paper by the register.
Hey. Went to Abuela's. You have the rest of the night off. Go to a party or something you reckless teen.
Usnavi

Sonny smiled. As if he would want to go to a party. But he did know what he wanted to do, see Pete again.
When Sonny returned, all that was left was a large painting on the bodega wall, and a note taped to the bottom corner of it with duct tape.
The note contained a phone number, a smiley face, and Sonny's name scrawled in beautiful writing.
"Shit," Sonny blushed intensely. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, creating a contact for Pete, then continuing to walk around the block, pondering over the new boy.

Heyy. Here I am, back again with some more shitty content. I actually wrote this a long time ago but hey, why not just publish it, right? Not that anyone even reads in the heights fan fiction other than me and maybe like 3 other people on this website.
But I sure hope the three of you enjoy :)
