"Amber!"
I spun around, following the sound of Sophie's soft voice. I grinned as she struggled to plow her way through all the students surrounding us. Poor Soph. She just wasn't outspoken enough to do something about it.
"Excuse me!" I yelled as I tried to swim upstream in the current of high school students to rescue Sophie. "Move it, people!"
I latched my arm onto hers, leading us to the edge of the hallway. "Thank you," Sophie said, breathing heavily.
"Don't mention it. So what's the deal?" I asked.
Her deep blue eyes widened like a deer's. "Greyson said he really needed to see you now."
I frowned. Knowing my boyfriend, it was probably something I thought would be dumb, but I tried to maintain the supportive-girlfriend role. "Fine, I guess study hall can wait."
As I marched to the cafeteria, my mind wandered. Greyson usually didn't ask me to skip class for dumb stuff, so whatever it was must be important.
I scanned the tables, and quickly picked out my boyfriend's short brown hair amidst the red lettermans around him. Greyson's face lit up when he saw me approaching the jock table.
"Hey babe," He said as he stood up and laced his fingers through mine. "There's a new kid and I figured we'd introduce ourselves."
Mentally rolling my eyes, I wondered why this couldn't wait. That's when I felt Greyson's hand let go of mine and slip around my waist instead, a signal to any guy watching that I was his girl.
So obviously this new kid was a guy, and Greyson had pulled me from class to make sure the new kid would know better than to touch what's his. Greyson was pretty much the perfect boyfriend, except for when he got insanely jealous. Then things were not pretty.
I followed Greyson's gaze to a guy standing a few feet away, and immediately I knew why Greyson was being so protective. This guy was slightly handsome, not in a jock-ish way with added height and the female-wooing smile, but in a dark and cold way. He had some muscle too, which is probably why Greyson took an interest in him: a future recruit for the football team.
The new guy's eyes met mine, and I felt the air whoosh out of my lungs. His eyes were a piercing light bluish-grey, like the color of an icicle. They contrasted nicely to his black hair and fair skin.
Greyson's grip on my waist tightened, and I slipped on a smile. Greyson stuck out his hand. "Hey dude, what's up? I'm Greyson, and this is my girlfriend Amber."
"Pleasure," said the new guy as he shook Greyson's hand, his eyes never wavering from mine. "I'm Diamond."
"I'm sorry, what?" Greyson said with a slightly confused chuckle. "I thought I heard your name was Diamond."
Diamond finally turned his attention to Greyson and calmly said,"That's correct."
"Oh. Okay," Greyson said with a slight pause. His brown eyes betrayed his skepticism. "So, Diamond, you play any sports?"
Feeling this was the appropriate time to leave so I wouldn't miss my next class too, I slipped out of Greyson's grip and said, "I better get going."
Greyson grabbed my hand and pulled me back, planting a deep kiss on my lips before letting me go. Slightly peeved about being shown off like a trophy, I offered Diamond an embarrassed but apologetic smile, and started off to my next class. My face with hot with shame for Greyson's behavior. What on earth was so alarming to Greyson about this new kid that made him so possessive? I didn't know, but I made up my mind that I was going to find out.
