Countdown [Natsu x Reader x Gray]

🎓Chapter 6🎓

You stared at your new kitten.

What should I name him?

You thought about Natsu. He also had a kitten that he's practically had forever. The cat's name is Happy. Natsu said he named the cat Happy because he makes everyone happy. Fitting, right? Though, you can't name your cat after an emotion.

That's more of Natsu's style.

Your new kitten has black fur. He stared at you with those big light brown eyes of his. It was absolutely adorable. Then it hit you.

Zuko.

You named him after a character, your favorite character, on a tv show you used to watch as a young child.

"Zuko!" You announced, "Or Zuzu for his nickname!"

"Zuko." Your mother repeated before nodding, "Alright then, Zuko it is!"

You took the kitten out of the box and held him gently. "Welcome to the family, Zuko." You talked to the animal, "I'm your new owner and best friend, (Y/N). We're going to have so much fun together!"

"Meow." The kitten spoke, looking up at you. You wondered if he could understand what you were saying. "C'mon," You said, still talking to your new friend, "let's go to my room so I can brag about you to Natsu and Gray."

With that being said, you walked to your room and shut the door. You took out your phone, hopped on to your bed (with Zuko in your arms), and called both Natsu and Gray -- having a three-way conversation.

"(Y/N)!" Natsu answered his phone, sounding absolutely ecstatic to hear from you.

"Hey, (Y/N)." Gray answered his phone as well, not sounding nearly as happy to hear from you as Natsu was (but that doesn't mean he wasn't happy to hear from you).

"Guys, guess what?" You said, grinning from ear to ear.

"You're inviting me over for dinner?" That was Natsu's guess. He sounded rather hopeful though. Too bad that wasn't what you wanted to tell them.

"Um, no." You immediately shot down the pink hair's idea.

"Did you get a car?" Gray asked.

"I wish." You replied.

"Then what is it?" Both boys asked at the same time.

"My parents got me a little kitten and he's adorable!" You said.

"Wait, so you're a cat lady now?" Gray asked, "Like Natsu?"

"Hey!" Natsu snapped.

"Very funny, Gray." You said sarcastically. "His name is Zuko. Say 'hi,' Zuko." You held the phone in front of the black cat.

"Meow."

"You named a cat Zuko?" Gray asked.

"Got a problem with my precious Zuzu?" You growled.

"Geez, you're almost as bad as Natsu naming his cat Happy."

"Hey, there's nothing wrong with Happy! Right, Happy?"

"You two are impossible." Gray muttered.

"You're just jealous because you're petless, Gray." You sassed.

"Yeah!" Natsu agreed, "What (Y/N) said!"

"Whatever." You heard Gray grumble. He was probably rolling his eyes at you and Natsu.

"(Y/N), send me a picture of you and, uh, Zucchini?" Natsu said, turning his request into a question because he forgot your cat's name.

"It's Zuko and okay!" You complied with his request.

"I'll see you guys later. I've got chores to do." Gray said.

"Yeah, Gray, go do your chores." Natsu teased.

Oh no.

"What did you say, you fire-loving moron?" Gray spat into the phone.

Here it comes.

"You heard me, you walking freezer!" Natsu fired back.

"Guys-" You tried to get their attention, but they were too busy shouting insults at each other.

"Human furnace!"

"Ice Princess!"

"Fire Queen!"

Seriously? You thought. Just when you thought they had matured, here they are shouting lame insults at each other.

After multiple failed attempts to get their attention, you just hung up and let them continue to argue for who knows how long.

The following day, one day away from Friday, you followed your same routine which consisted of your ride to school with Gray and Natsu.

You were in the hallway, rushing to class because you had to break up yet another fight between Natsu and Gray. You turned the corner to a hallway when you bumped into somebody.

"I'm sorry." You apologized in a quiet voice, rubbing your head. That's when you noticed who you ran in to.

It was the new guy. The guy you helped in the hallway and the guy who was staring at you during lunch yesterday.

"You're that guy." You mumbled, accidentally thinking out loud. Then you caught yourself and remembered that you don't even know his name. "Um, I never got your name." You said, hinting that you wanted to know his name.

The boy just stared at you. It was like he was frozen in place. When you asked for his name, he figited, obviously nervous. "Z-Zero . ." He mumbled his name, avoiding eye contact with you.

"Oh, uh, okay, Zero!" You said, waving as you walked around him and to your class. "Bye!"

Zero watched you as you hurried down the hallway, his cheeks turning pink when you were no longer looking at him.

When you were out of sight, he turned and walked to the destination he had in mind before you bumped into him: the nurse's office.

Concerning you, as a senior in high school, you made it an effort to actually pay attention in class and do your work so you could earn good grades.

If you were going to go to college next year, then you had to show them that you could make good grades.

Though, you still had no idea where you were going.

"(Y/N)!" While going to your locker during class change, you turned around and saw Natsu running toward you.

"What is it, Natsu?"

The pink haired boy smiled at you, but he seemed nervous. He was looking at the lockers rather than at you and he was scratching his neck.

"I was just wondering if I could maybe, possibly . . . come over to your house this weekend?" He asked. He saw you raise your eyebrows and decided to clarify his request. "F-For the cats." He added, "I-I thought that Happy and Zuko could, you know, hang out. Like a play date or something."

"A play date?" You repeated. Natsu nodded his head vigorously in response, obviously excited. You rolled your eyes playfully and laughed lightly. "Alright, Natsu. If you say so." You said, turning to your locker.

Natsu fist pumped the air when you weren't looking. He was looking forward to, what he considered to be, a date with you this weekend.

The cats were just an excuse for him to come over.

He would definetly make you fall for him before the end of the school year.
