Welcome back. Time for Chapter 4.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Hamilton. I am not Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hamilton is a masterpiece I can't claim, but I CAN make fan-fictions about.THE NEXT MORNING
Evangeline POV
I was awoken by the bright sun pouring through my window. What happened last night? The only thing I remember was getting lost in town and the kind soldier that refused to leave until I was satisfied. What was his name, Lafayette? That's it, Lafayette. He was so dashing and heroic. Muscular and charming. I've never felt as protected as I did when I was with him. Well of course, I mean he is a soldier. Ugh, I'm even awkward about my feelings in my own thoughts, which were interrupted by my father's ground-shaking voice."Evangeline! Are you up yet?", boomed my father.
I am now. "Yes, I'll be down in a second."I pull myself out of bed. I find my mirror with a simple lift of my head and cringed at the sight. I grab my brush and begin to fix my outrageous hair. I then grab my coral robe to cover my thin, silk, night gown. I close the door and hurry down the stairs to greet my father.
"Morning Papa.", I greet as I kiss him on his cheek.
"Morning Eve, did you enjoy yourself in town yesterday?""I did, it was so lively. Many merchants and street performers.", I lied through my teeth. Well, it wasn't all a lie. I did enjoy myself, until I got lost.
"You must've. You didn't get home until at least one in the morning.", my father began.
Damn it. Here we go."What were you thinking? I realize it was your first time in town, but you must be more cautious. You don't know what could have happened to you?! I trusted you to be more responsible with this Evangeline."
"Papa, I know--"
"That's the thing, you don't know, I don't know, no one knows! Something can happen just like that and you're gone. Freedom is exciting, but it can be trouble when it finds itself.
"I'm sorry Papa.", I murmured on the verge of tears.
"I know, I just want you safe. Your mother can't take another heartbreak. Just...promise me to be more careful next time, ok?""I will--wait, next time?", I questioned.
"Yes, the Winter's Ball is tonight and you need a new dress and shawl. Now hurry up, Angelica is on her way to pick you up.", my mother rushed in the dining hall, interrupting the conversation with my father and I.
She rushed me upstairs so I could start prepping. Don't get her wrong, she doesn't usually care for primping her children, especially her daughters. But have a ball or some kind of cotillion, and she'll go ballistic over ribbons, shawls, and outfits galore.
I an upstairs and started getting dressed. I had two maids help fitting my corset, then I pretty much had the rest done. But of course, helpful but annoying as they are, they stayed and helped with my skirt and blouse.
Once I was done, my silk gown was now replaced with a snow white linen skirt with a olive green covering and a olive green, buttoned up blouse that ended with an olive bow in the front. The sleeves were short and the skirt wasn't too long. It was just fine. Perfect for exploring town....once more.
Soon enough, Angelica's carriage pulled up in front of my house.
"Evangeline, come down sweetie.", Angelica hollered up.
"Goodbye father, goodbye mother."
"Be gracious and heed my warning Evangeline.", bellowed my father.I giggled as I ran down the stairs of my house, into Angelica's carriage.
"Angelica!"
"Evangeline, how are you Hun?" She sounded concerned.
"I'm fine, I was scared, of course, but I'm fine. Someone helped thank God." Oh no, probably shouldn't have told her that.Angelica, with a shocked look, twisted around in the carriage and went insane.
"Who is he? What's his name? How did he look? Is he a solider or a noble? Ooh, a noble, that would be really good!", Angelica harped on.
"Angelica, how do you even know it was a man who helped me?"
"Because you just blushed when you asked that question.", she pointed out.
"Fine, you've caught me. Yes, it was a man who helped me."
Suddenly, we pulled up to the commons. People started gathering around us, knowing our status in New York.
"We'll continue this later.", reminded Angelica. I nodded in disbelief that she would actually bring him up again. Though, it wouldn't be the worst thing to talk about him again.Walking through town, we recognized Eliza and Peggy near a dress shop. Once they saw us, they charged straight ahead.
We hugged and laughed with each other, almost falling over in the process. We then went into the dress shop and started looking for dress for the Winter's Ball tonight. It's strange how we still go dress shopping for occasions like this, but we own so many expensive dresses already. Honestly, our wardrobes combined can shelter at least three armies.
Eliza found a beautiful blue dress while Peggy found a wonderful green dress. Angelica was helping me look for one until she began to speak."Eve, don't you have something to share, a certain person in mind?" Angelica eyed me suggestively.
Damn, she remembered. I can't do anything now. Or can I?As I was going to fake-forget our conversation from earlier, Peggy and Eliza, sneaky as they are, overheard Angelica and began to walk over.
"Who's the lucky guy Eve?" Peggy piped in.
I toyed with them.
"You'll have to wait and see" I replied with a sneaky smirk.
"Eve!", shrieked Angelica.
"Relax, I never said I wouldn't tell you guys. I trust you with anything I have my heart on. I promise, at the ball." I reassured the sisters. It was now sundown. We paid for our dresses and headed on to my father's house to get ourselves ready for tonight.
As they ran towards the carriage with their dresses, I dropped one of my shawls on the ground.I must be going crazy, because when I ran back to pick it up, I saw him. The gentleman, Lafayette back against a storefront laughing with his friends as they reach for their flasks.
I wanted to see him again, I actually prayed to maybe see his face or hear his beautiful, French accent again. Then, in an instant, his head turned towards mine and our eyes locked. Just like that night. He smiled my way as I returned a blush.
I slowly walked back to the carriage, letting my presence linger on his dark, brown eyes.I jumped in the carriage and felt the horses start to gallop. I sat back and glanced outside the window, hoping tonight will grant all my wishes. Every one I have.
Chapter is done. I hope you enjoyed it~🐢🌹
