Chapter Twenty

Sitting in the barn waiting for Alpha Joe-the next morning-I am terrified being dumped into the deep end.

I bet they plan on getting the attention of the other pack by making me cross the line so they would want to kill me, stupid way of getting their attention but possibly the only way.

The door opens, Joe and Max walk into the room, I stand up "come on let's go we have work to do" Joe says and they both turn to leave, I'm even more scared now they are definitely throwing me into the deep end, they aren't let me in on any part of the plan, I have to keep reminding myself to breathe all the way there.

Joe and Max both stop at the line so I do too "your bait" Max tells me, shocker, I sigh and cross over the line and stop as soon as I do, I know I can cross back over cause that will risk the entire pack getting harmed they have to be able to get the scent so that they know I'm in my human form so I'm not a potential threat.

It isn't long before six guys are stood in front of me, I see wolves hiding behind trees, I focus on the guys in front of me "you've been warned" spoke one of the guys, I look and notice it's the one that threatened me when I had to cross over to get Pandora "we aren't here to cause trouble, we need to talk to your Alpha" I say, they all look behind me at Joe and Max. A tall, muscular guy steps forward from another guy who was little shorter but only by a couple of inches "I'm their Alpha and this is Beta" he tells me.

"I am Alpha of this pack and this is our Beta, Layton is just a member of our pack" Joe says oh thanks for telling them my name, they eye me up before looking back at Joe, "we have a few issues on our side and wandered if it was possible to talk to you about your pack" Joe said, but his voice made me bow my head a little meaning he was in his Alpha stance right now as Beta was in his too "go on" the Alpha of the other pack said "we have had a few injuries and two deaths within our pack all from being shot, I wondered if this was happening to members of your pack too?"

I see all the other pack exchange glances "yes, so it is just poachers?" the Alpha of the other pack said, I stop for a moment at the word poachers "I've had my guys high on patrol but we have been unsuccessful there's but a few shot on patrol but the others with them haven't seen a thing" my Alpha expresses I look down "how is that possible?" one of the members of the other pack asks "you can get telescopic sights for guns which will help them see from further distances and different guns can fire different ranges like XS1 they can fire over a thousand yards" I answer, I grew up around guns, I'd been threatened with plenty.

Everyone looks at me "Layton, why did you tell us you knew about guns?" Alpha questions I look at him "it wouldn't have helped in any way, all we have is the bullets I don't know about them just guns" I answer he sighs like I am unless, I hope he's not forgetting I'm the one over the borderline and I was the only that's save lives of people in our pack after they've been shot.

The Alphas and Betas arrange to meet up and talk things over without the pack members, so we can officially leave Joe looks at me "what's happened with those girls?" I question "they are a part of our pack Lisa, Patricia and Jamelia they are called" he says I nod slightly and then head to my cabin and see Pandora's car I hear the engine start "Tink?" I call out loud and instantly the door opens and she gets out, running to me. I pick her up and spin her around, I don't want to say goodbye.

"Please, don't let me go" I hear her whisper, that broke my heart, I didn't want to but I know I have to "can you come with us?" she asks "I can't leave my pack" I whisper back to her I hear her sob "I don't want to leave you" I rub her back "I don't want you to leave" I say back to her I got a sniff of something as I spin her around again.

I stand still and stiff again, Kai? Pandora pulls away and looks at me "what?" I must have said that out loud "it's nothing" I say "can you visit me?" I question, she nods "and you are going to visit me?" I nod "definitely" I say back and she smile "Dora, we have to go" I hear her Uncle say "ok Uncle Coop" she says and looks at me "I'm gonna to miss you" she says "I'm going to miss you too" I say.

I walk her over to the car and the scent gets stronger, this can't be please I look at them "I hope you aren't taking any wild animals home with you" I fake joke, Coop does a chuckle "let's not call it that then" he says I freeze "you wolf hunters" I fake joke again Pandora looks at me then at her Uncle "can I see it?" I question, Pandora looks at me again, she definitely knows more than she's letting on Coop proudly opens the boot and I come face to face with two paws and Kai's wolf body, and I freeze.

I can feel my body starting to burn up and my eyes fill with tears "you are just planning to travel with a dead wolf in the back of your car?" I question, Pandora comes over to me "calm down, Layton" she whispers I look at her calm down? I want to rip the heads of each of them "it's not the first time" Coop says "what are you planning to do with two paws and a wolf body?" I question, I just stare at the paws they were Damien's paws my eyes and body both burning "display them" Coop says like it's totally natural.

I look at Pandora who looks at the ground "we need to talk a minute" I say to her and grab her arm and lead her away from them "they can't leave with those" I say Pandora shakes her head "there's nothing you can do about or anything I can do" she says I shake my head "you don't understand those paws belong to my best friend, your family killed my best friend" I instantly feel a tear go down my face "that wolf is a just turned 16 year old boy, and you know what those thing will turn back to their human form after a month possibly" I say she looks shocked.

I breathe out trying to not phase "I need them back, all of them" I say she looks down "they aren't going to let them go" she says "oh they will" I say and back away from her and phase "Layton please" she cries but I howl and then head out growling while telling the others what was going on, Pandora comes out "Coby" she cries after me, her uncle gets out a gun but I can smell and hear my pack coming.

They all start piling out the trees as do the other pack, I jump forward and get on her uncle growling in his face "Bill help, someone help" Coop cries out from under me as three members of the pack climb into the van and get Kai out of there Frankie jumps in a grabs Damien's paws and is shot as he jumps back out. I freeze for a moment, Will dives on one of the men biting the hand with the gun in.

It isn't long before I heard a gun go and feel a sharp pain in my leg, I whimper and bite Coop, I need to get out of here before I phase 'I've got you' I hear Will's voice I feel a few pair of teeth grab me, not violently, just moving me knowing I was phase back with the amount of pain of a bullet.

They manage to get me behind a tree before a phase back "my leg" I cry out, Will phases back "you're going to be ok, Layton" he says "where's Frankie?" I ask "some of the pack is taking him to the hospital" he tells me I nod "is he okay?" Will nods "he's in the same state as you alive but in pain" I sit up leaning against a tree "how could Pandora do this to me?" I ask him he rubs my arm, not saying anything.

I hear a howl, Stuart, I phase back quickly and go back out limping on my bad paw but trying to goes as fast as I can one of the female wolves had already took down one of the men and Stuart was lying on the floor we cover him luckily nobody was paying attention to him because he was in human form and wasn't moving.

Will, with my help, gets him on his back and we get out there as fast as we can and over to the hospital, times like this great that we had our own hospital. They took Stuart and rushed him off and then one of the girls, Hillary, opens the closed door for us, and we went in and phased and got dressed. After, we went in search of Frankie, we found him because, like usual, he was talking way too much "couldn't have bullet have stopped your voice?" Will jokes we all laugh "how are you?" I ask "good thanks" Frankie says.

He sits up "have you been injured? You are sweating like crazy and you are pale" he says looking at me worried I sit down on the foot of his bed "yeah Pandora's uncle shot me and it caught my leg" I tell him "nurse" Frankie shouts and Ginevra comes in and smiles at me, she's always had a big of crush on me but nothing has ever happened because she knows that I would imprint on someone and she knew that girl wasn't her.

Frankie tells her about me getting shot and she takes me to check me over, she talks about surgery so I quickly learn her my way of getting a bullet out and she does it as I tell her, as much as it hurt I just wanted it over with cause I need to make sure everyone else was ok.
