 CHAPTER ONE - Bridgit Mendler

I take a cup of latte. I tuck my hair behind my ear and start to sip the latte. It was cold and raining outside. I got stuck in this cafe with my laptop, and just sit there. I look around if I might met someone I know, but I didn't. I look again when I hear the door opened. A guy with a wet clothes walks in, I watch him curiously. He was freezing, I could see it in his face. He walks to the bar and order a cup of coffee like I did. I stare at him for few seconds until I realize I shouldn't. But, I was too late. He looks at me before I turn around. He left his coffee and walk toward me. This is not going to be good, I think.

"Any problem, miss?" he asks. "What are you staring at?"

I shake my head. "Nothing. I'm so sorry."

"Good," he left and returns to the bar. His eyes were red, a pair of tired eyes. He maybe worked all day.

I tighten up my sweater. It was still very cold inside here. No wonder he's freezing. I didn't really know what to do but to watch him. I slowly turn around so I could see him but suddenly he's already sitting in front of me.

"What on earth is happening to you?" he asked me sarcastically.

"Nothing, really, sorry," I stuttered. "It just..."

"What?" he said with high tone.

"Your wet clothes. Don't you feel cold?"

"Of course I feel cold. You think?"

"Oh," I nod. "I'm so sorry for disturbing."

We just sat there without saying anything. He knocks his fingers to the table while I was staring at the window. My mom said I shouldn't talk to stranger. But we are.

"I'm Bridgit," I finally say. He looks at me for awhile.

"Bridget? Sorry, how to spell?"

I smiled. "No. B-r-i-d-g-i-t."

"Never heard a name like that before. Cool name. I'm Adam," he gives me his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Adam," I smile, again.

And we were really just sit there without saying any word. Just a peaceful and awkward silence. But the atmosphere was nice though.

The rain stops so I decide to go home. I look at him and realized what he stared at. Me. "I know I stare at you just now, but it was an accident," I say. "You really don't have to stare back at me."

He wakes up from his daydream.

"Sorry," he says. "Yeah, I don't mean to. Sorry."

I nod. "Well, I got to go. Um, bye."

"See you."

No. Just, no. I don't want to see you. I pack my bag quickly and walk away behind the door. Let's just be far from him as humanly possible. That was not an awkward silence, it's a creepy silence.

I start up my car, looking through the window to see if he stays there even when I leave, and he is. Staring at the window, staring at my car. His hazel eyes are bright even from this distance. I just drive immediately.

Hazel eyes, dirty-blonde messy hair, wet clothes, thin lip. Strange man. Is he working? Or a high-school student? Or studying at college, just like me?

I see Naomi get out of the door exactly as I park the car.

"Where have you been?" she says, her voice sounds just like my mother. Walking toward me. "I'm just about to find you."
