History isn't the best class to talk to people. You have two choices in the class: Either you listen to Ms.Kemper or you let her whoop your sorry butt.

Yeah, most of us choose to listen, because, trust me, you don't wanna get spanked by Ms.Kemper. Ever.

My name's Jake Mason, and this is the story of how my life changed dramatically.

"As we have been learning about the history of our country for so long, I would like to keep a test tomorrow", announced Ms.Kemper. There were groaning sounds from all sides of the room. "Now, children, I want you all to have much more enthusiasm than that. That's not the right spirit", she said. There were mutters from most people saying they had so much on their plate already. I twisted in my seat and turned to look at Amelia Gardner, my best friend since 1st grade. We have been best friends for 8 years, which meant that we were in 8th grade now. She had her eyes closed and was muttering something under her breath. "Hey, Weirdo", I whispered. She slowly raised her head and opened her eyes. "What?" Classic Amelia. Disturb her when she's thinking deeply and she gets pissed. "Meet me outside after this. I've got something to show you", I replied. She gave me a wide smile and said, "Done". I smiled back at her too.

Unfortunately, Ms. Kemper noticed us. "Mister Mason and Miss Gardner", she called out. "Yes?" we replied, tentatively. "I would appreciate it if you planned your dates outside of my class, please. This isn't the place for all this nonsense. Talk one more time, and you're off to the Headmaster" she said, severely. "But we weren't-" I began hotly, but Amelia cut me off. She laughed hysterically and hooted, "Planning dates? What would you know about dating, Ms. Kemper? You've been living for more than half a century and you've never had a boyfriend or a husband." There were loud 'Oooo's from everyone. Yes, she can be pretty savage when she wants to. Ms. Kemper's nostrils flared and her eyes flashed dangerously. "Miss Gard-" she began, but was cut off by the bell, which announced the end of her class. She obviously wanted to tell Amelia off for her cheekiness, but thought better of it. "So don't forget about that test tomorrow. Everything about our country's history. Don't expect me to give you easy questions." After a lot of 'Yeah's and 'Okay's, we all started to file out. I picked up my backpack stuffed my book in it and got up. "That was some savageness there", I grinned at her. "Well, she shouldn't have messed with me. She should know that I'm not the type who sits quietly after being insulted. She should be afraid of me, right? I mean, look at my biceps", she said, flexing her muscles. There was absolutely nothing there to be afraid of course, but I knew she was being sarcastic. "Oh yeah, I'm scared already", I said, in a tiny kid voice. She laughed and we headed out of the door, into the grounds.

"So what did you want to show me?" she asked. "Hold on, let's find somewhere quiet and private", I muttered, as a group of people passed us. A few guys turned to look at Amelia, which wasn't surprising, seeing as she was tall and had perfect skin, and silky brown hair which came just down to her shoulders. She ignored the people staring at her and told me, "Yeah sure. If there is some place like that." "Oh trust me, I'll find one", I winked at her.

After walking around for sometime, we came to a deserted part of the ground and sat under a tree. I took out a pen out of my bag and looked her in the eyes and said, "Watch." I placed the pen on the ground and concentrated hard, staring at the pen and finally achieved what I wanted. The pen was now floating a foot above the ground. She raised her eyebrows and said, "It's gotten stronger." "Yeah, I replied, "I've been noticing it for some time. What about yours?" " I don't know if it's gotten stronger, because I haven't tried it since last week", she said.

Oh, in case, you're wondering, we found out about a year ago that we could move stuff with our mind. And also, we could only move it a short distance. It happened in my backyard, where we were just hanging out after school one day. We were throwing her Frisbee around when it got stuck in one of the big trees. None of us knew how to climb a tree and my parents were out. So I was just fooling around, trying to imitate a hero from a cartoon we used to watch, where he could move stuff just by concentrating on it. So I concentrated hard on the Frisbee and mentally visualized it moving and coming down to our feet when, to my utter amazement, it actually tore free from amidst the leaves, hovered for around 2 micro seconds, and fell down at us. Amelia turned to look at me and by her expression, you would have thought that I had fallen from Mars. "How did you....", but I replied even before she finished asking her question. "I dunno. Really. I just tried to act like the guy from that cartoon who does telekinesis, when it actually happened." I had the strangest feeling that she wanted to get as far as possible from me. But then her face split into the widest grin. "How cool was that? You're my first choice if I ever need a bodyguard", she said. I tried to return her smile, but to be honest, I was freaking out. And then, something even weird happened. The Frisbee started to float again. I turned around to look at Amelia and saw that she had that expression on her face which she always has when we play chess, which meant she was either thinking of the best way to kill me, or she was concentrating hard. I liked to think that it was the latter."Hey, I can do it too!", she exclaimed. Okay, this was getting creepy. We spent the rest of the evening moving things around. We realized we couldn't move big stuff, like trees, houses, cars, etc. But Frisbees, pencils, erasers, books, were no sweat.

So yeah, back to the school ground. She tried levitating the pen too, and we noticed that both of our powers had gotten stronger. Suddenly, I heard the leaves of the tree under which we were sitting rustle. I tried to act like I didn't realize it, but I could sense someone hiding up there. How? I don't know. I could just make it out. Maybe it was part of my telekinesis. Maybe it was something else. Slowly, I whispered to Amelia, "Don't look up, there's someone sitting above us." Just as I said it, I sensed the person leave the tree and jump down to us. "Run!!!", I shouted. But it was of no use. The person jumped in front of us. It was clearly a guy. He wore a mask that had eyeholes in it. He looked at us for a few seconds. He then raised his hands to the sky and immediately brought them down, pointing each hand at each of us. I could feel a foreign thought enter my brain saying "Sleep. It's okay. Just sleep. It's alright. We're all friends." "But why", I thought. I could feel my knees buckling, but I managed to stay upright and not fall. Through the corner of my eyes, I could see that Amelia was nowhere close to sleeping as I was. The masked man looked up at us in surprise. Then he grunted and using apparently a lot of his concentration, he made us feel extremely sleepy. I could not prevent my knees buckling now. "Who are you?", I spluttered. For a split second, I had the feeling that the man was smiling. And then I fell, face down onto the ground.
