"Wow. So we're basically a couple of freaks who are surrounded by even freakier freaks?" Amelia asked.
We were outside her room the next morning. I had just finished explaining everything that Rapier had told me yesterday.
"That", I said, "is a very mild way of putting it. Rapier thinks that we have even more powers than what we think we have and we just haven't unlocked it yet."
"Yeah well, cheers to that."
I heard a door open nearby and Rapier came muttering to himself. He looked thoroughly upset about something. "He looks like his wife just broke up with him", Amelia whispered out of the corner of her mouth. Rapier must have heard her whispering, because his head snapped right up and spotted us. "Ah, good, you're awake. Let's go down for breakfast shall we?", he said and motioned for us to follow him.
"Breakfast?" Amelia mouthed and followed him. I stepped in behind her.
As we passed through the corridor, I couldn't help notice how elegant the place looked. Polished wooden floors, decorated ceilings, and the doors were made of ebony. The entire place looked like a five-star hotel. The people must have really blown some bucks in constructing this place. Speaking of which...
"Hey, Rapier, where exactly are we? I mean, like, are we still in Boston or somewhere else?", I asked him.He turned to look at me. "We may be in Boston. Or perhaps not", he said and continued walking.
"Wow, that makes a lot of sense. Really. Mind-blowing. Appreciate the help man. I understand everything now."
"What I meant is, this place exists everywhere. It's connected to every dimension."
Dimensions. Now I was sure we were in the wrong place. However Amelia decided there was nothing weird about it.
"Whoa, so that means you can go to any dimension from here?" Amelia asked. "Yes, you can", he replied.
"So if I were to step out from here, where would I be?" I asked.
"That depends on the need."
All of this sounded a bit shady to me. I mean, it's not common for someone to be taken to another place and being told that everyone here is "special". Also, I didn't trust Rapier that much. Something about the guy just seemed......off.
We started descending down a set of stairs. I was never one for admiring architecture, but the designs and structure of this whole place was just amazing. For someone whose dad worked in a lumber company (which didn't earn us much) and a mom who was a housewife, this place looked like something I could only dream of.
The only other nice place I'd been to was Amelia's house. Her house was this big mansion that would make passerbys stop and stare at it. Even though she wouldn't admit it, she was pretty rich. Her dad passed away early in her life (actually, I don't think she's ever seen him) and left her mom a fortune. Her mom also comes from a well-to-do family, so yeah, she's rich. But the one thing I liked about Amelia was that she tried hard to act like she wasn't. She always wore clothes that were really old or torn in some places and she hadn't changed her backpack since 5th grade. Sure, she was attractive, but if you looked at the way she dressed, you would never guess that she was rich. Since 1st grade, we were inseparable. We became friends when I stole her pencil because, well, it was a bad month for my dad and we didn't have the money to get proper food, much less buy a pencil. So when she found out, she was actually pretty cool about it. When she asked my why I didn't have any pencils, I was reluctant at first to tell her, but the way her hazel eyes bore into mine, I eventually told her. Ever since then, she took it upon herself to help me in every way possible. She invited me to her house every weekend and since then, we were the best of friends. Although, the past few months, I'd been seeing her as more than a friend....
