Chapter 16 - Kill me before I kill you
'Don't underestimate me bitch! - A"
Britney reads her text from A just before Jessica Dilaurentis' funeral. As she sits in the Dilaurentis house, in the living room, waiting for Jason to be dressed and ready for the funeral.
She wouldn't have thought about going but Jason needs her support today.
Her phone buzzes and it's Mike 'I haven't heard from you lately?! What's going on? Can I meet you tonight? - Mike'
She locks her phone and sighs. She's been ignoring his calls for at least a week now. There's just so much going on and she doesn't want him to be involved. She wants to keep him out of it, keep him safe. She also has no idea about how she feels for Jason.
They've had a kiss and some moments between them and she sees the way he looks at her. It's clear that he's not over her either.
Jason comes downstairs in his black suit, ready for the funeral. Britney stands up in the same black dress she wore for Ali's funeral and her and Jason both get into the limousine, that's outside the house waiting for them.
When they arrive at the church, there is no one outside. It's clear that everyone else is already in the church and in their seats.
Britney takes Jason's hand and holds it tightly. She gives him a weak smile, and he gives her one back. They look over to the limbo where there are a group of men taking the coffin out and carrying it towards the church.
Britney and Jason step aside as they watch the coffin go past. Britney feels Jason's hand grip hers tighter. As they walk behind the coffin and into the church, Britney notices that everyone is staring at them. Of course she thought this is normal but the people were giving them weird, confused looks. Maybe they know about us. She thought to herself.
She sees a number of people from around town and of course her four best friends, sitting together in a row near to the front. As the men set the coffin down at the front of the church, her and Jason sit themselves in the front row next to Mr Dilaurentis who Britney notices, isn't crying. His face is empty of emotions. It's as if he's at some sort of court trial. He doesn't shed a tear once during the service. However Jason is different and sobs every now and then while Britney comforts him.
At the end of the service, Britney and Jason go back into the limbo and return back to Ali's house. While Britney makes Jason a cup of tea, she watches him sit in the living room, holding a photo of his family, tears running down his face.
She joins him on the sofa and sets his cup of tea down in front of him.
"Will your father be back soon?" I ask him.
"No. He's gone. He told me he had to leave Rosewood. Too many memories here. He said it's too painful for him to stay." Britney nods silently.
"I get it. Since Ali... Rosewood doesn't feel like home anymore."
Jason looks at her, his eyes showing sadness. "Britney, what do I do? I can't live in this big house all alone. My whole family is gone. I have nothing left."
"You do... you have me."
"Will you stay?" Jason asks her, taking her hand and holding it in his.
"Of course. However long you need me."
"I don't need you with me, I want you with me." Jason holds her chin up and kisses her on the lips gently, still crying.
"I'll go get my stuff from the barn and my house. I'll be back tonight."
