Part 11:

She dropped the keys on her front bench and slowly tried to creep past the living room.

"Where were you Caroline?" Her mother said to her from the couch, she was wearing her uniform like always.

Caroline rolled her eyes "I went for a walk." She said, which was entirely true seeing as she did just get home from her walk with Klaus.

"I can't believe you." She said touching her temple "I have to go, there's been another animal attack."

Caroline's eyes widened "Animal attack?" Caroline asked.

"Yes Caroline." She said aggravated "I don't want you going out late at night anymore unless you're at a friends house."

She felt like she had just swallowed her tongue, it couldn't have been Klaus, she thought to herself. She was with him most of the time, she flashed back to the first day they met "Vervain, love." Was what he had said to her. "Uhm mom?" Caroline said.

"Yes care?" Her mom said rushing to find her phone

"what do you know about vervain?" Caroline asked her.

Her mom stopped in her tracks "where did you hear about vervain?" Her mom said sounding worried.

"Bonnie's Grams was just talking about it." She said shrugging.

"Well it's this flower that is said to be toxic for Uhm-" she paused "for vampires."

Caroline attempted to pull a confused face and laughed "vampires?"

Her mother looked at her with serious eyes "the founders of mystic falls were all about it, I think we might even have some upstairs."

Caroline shook her head "Whatever, it was a stupid question anyways." Her mother gave her an uneasy look and walked to the door "I'll be home late, don't invite in strangers." She said closing the door.

Caroline heard the car pull out of the drive way and immediately ran up the stairs and into the attic. The room was dark and full of cob webs and dust. It

was filled with old pictures of her family, newspaper clips and books. On the right side of her was a large brown box, she flipped the lid over and took out a small tin case. She lifted the lid up slowly and found a small bundle of dried vervain tied together with a purple bow.
