I tend to colour fill the text layers with white 95% of the time, as seen on the cover. when finished, I simply dragged the coloured layer below the actual text layer, so it'll look like this:

I also decided to set the opacity of the colour fill to 50%, and added a 35% depth inner bevel so it'd seem more faded, but the text still stands out more compared to if the colour fill wasn't added in at all.

I repeated the same, exact process for the author/watermark text.
