Cold Winter Night

Snap. Crack
Fire burns bright
Keeping me warm
This cold winter night

The sky is black
No stars overhead
A gust kills the flames
And I'm filled with dread

Wind is howling
My veins flow with fear
A loud voice booms
"You should not have come here."

"Who's there?" I shout to the trees
For no one came with me
An old man approaches
I can't believe what I see

He's transparent and pale
With dead, unblinking eyes
I think to myself,
I've met my demise

I try to run
But my legs turn to stone
I want to scream
But my lips are sewn

He speaks again
"Trespassers must pay.
These woods are cursed"
Is this my last day?

He grabs my arm
I'm no longer in fright
The shadows are calling
This cold winter night
