Nicole's POV

Michael is sitting very quietly on the backseat, as if he doesn't want to be noticed. I look outside, its sunnier than when we left and I can see more of the town. Everything looks small and charming, very different from Seattle. Even though I wasn't happy about moving, I can get used to this. Now I only have to see how it will be at school.

I turn around to Michael. "Did you went to Hugin High?"

Michael looks surprised, but does answer. "Yes, it was a fun school. As far as school is fun." he adds with a smile. "It's a small school and new students are well taken care off, so nothing to worry about for your first school day."

A smile appears on my face, it was nice to hear. I'm pretty nervous to go to a new school, especially now my brother will return to the university so soon.

After a few minutes we drive into our street, where is indeed a small bakery. Michael takes his groceries with him and explains he'll be walking home. Jared and I walk after him into the bakery. It smells like freshly baked breads and sugared buns. Water runs into my mouth at the sight of the showcases with breads and pastries. A friendly-looking woman walks towards us.

"Can I help you?" She asks.

"Do you have baguettes?" Jared asks.

The woman points at one of the baskets behind her. "We have white, whole grain, and with poppy seed."

"Than we'll take one white and one whole grain, please."

The woman takes the breads from the basket and wraps them in paper. Than I see a pamphlet on the window.

"Wanted: Employee for weekdays 7.00-12.00, no experience needed. Further information available at the counter."

I turn around to Michael. "Isn't that something for you?"

Michael looks surprised and reads the pamphlet. "What a great idea, I'll ask if I can have a job interview. Thanks."

"Your welcome, goodbye." I say as I see my brother wants to leave.

Jared and Michael say goodbye to each other as well, and we walk back outside.

Michael's POV

"Excuse me, I saw you're looking for an employee." I say to the lady behind the counter.

"Thats right," she answers, "it's very busy in the morning, we need someone to help in the shop, and maybe in the bakery now and then. Are you interested?"

I smile. "Yes, I've worked in a shop before, I enjoyed that. I don't bake often but I'm prepared to learn it."

The woman pulls up her eyebrows. "You're very enthusiastic, that's a good sign. When could you start?"

"Tomorrow, I have a gap year, so I have a lot of free time for now."

The woman looks happy. "That would be great, would you like to try it out for a day? Than you can sign the papers if you like it."

"That would be great. In that case I'd like to buy some kaiser breads. I do want to know what the food tastes like when I sell it." I joke.

The saleswoman laughs again. "Right you have, that will be $2. And here are some more breads to try out."

"Oh, thank you." I hand over the money and put the bread in my bag. I see the jelly I had bought  and feel glad I had. "At what time do I start tomorrow?"

"Normally at 7, but tomorrow you can come half an hour early so I can explain everything."

"Alright, than I'll see you tomorrow, thank you for the bead." I wave at the woman.

She waves back. "See you tomorrow, enjoy the bread."

I walk out of the bakery feeling relieved. With a job I'll be able to save some money again, maybe I can even rent a room somewhere. But for now I'll have to do with what I have.

As soon as I'm back at the house I put the groceries in the shed where I'm hiding. After eating some bread I decide to look for another shed somewhere in the woods. It's too risky to stay here. I just hope nobody lives in the woods so I won't have to worry about getting found.
