Lexa refused to talk about Costia. For a time she kept her feelings away from her leadership but I knew she was hurting. The girl she loved was in the hands of The Ice Queen and for Costia the odds of her returning back to Lexa alive were slim.
We marched over the border into the lands of Boudalankru and were met with an army of warriors all ready to spill our blood. No time was wasted, our armies surged forward and so began the massacre.
We attacked from all directions, tactically and with a deadly force. Our warriors never yielded, they fought with an unrivalled strength gaining control of the battle.
I fought with Indra by Lexa's side. We looked on as she cut down warrior after warrior, her fury over Costia was now focused on destroying as many of her enemies as possible. She offered no mercy, she never held back, the sword of her father now soaked in the blood of Azgeda and their allies. Even when it was clear we had won, she continued to fight. It was in that moment I realised Lexa began to loose control of her anger. She brutally slayed those warriors that remained alive even when they surrendered and begged for mercy.
I pulled her away from the carnage, not wanting to loose her to the madness of war, "Heda, please! Enough! The battle is ours. This will not help us find Costia!"
Lexa attempted to break from my grasp, overwhelmed by her rage. I held onto her until she finally found her calm. Looking at me, her face covered in blood, despair in her eyes, she spoke for the first time about her feelings, "I can't loose her, Anya. Even if it means I have to kill every Azgeda solider that stands in my way to get her back!"
I nodded, understanding her frustration. I felt for her, she may have been my Commander but she was still the girl I trained and raised in the forests of our home. Her heart was breaking and I had no way of stopping it.Lexa began to calm herself from the rage she was feeling. We were still covered in the blood of the dead when Gustus approached, "Heda. We have the Rockline War Chief."
Lexa's eyes widened at the revelation, "Take me to him!"
Gustus led us to a holding tent, inside an injured Boudalankru War Chief was on his knees, bound to a post. His physical condition didn't look good, but we now had a prisoner of war much like Azgeda also did. Lexa began to question him, "What is your name?"
He remained silent and spat at her. She struck him across the face with the back of her hand, sending blood flying across the tent. "If this is the way you want it to be then I'll happily oblige."
The war chief looked up with spite in his eyes, "You'll get nothing from me, Trikru!"
Gustus stepped in and grabbed him by the throat, "You will call her Heda or by the end of this I'll cut out your tongue and send it to what's left of your clan!"
The Rockline warrior became very aware that Gustus was a not to be angered.
Lexa continued to question him, "Tell me of Azgeda's battle strategy once we reach the Ice Lands."
He smirked back at her, "They intend to wipe you all out and they will."
I pressed him further, "How?"
His response became personal, "By torturing the Plains Rider known as Costia until she breaks and gives up every little secret you have... Heda!" He grinned at Lexa, knowing how she felt about her Plains Girl. Heda glared at him in silence, I could see the battle in between her head and her heart. She needed to remain in control, but this was a demand of the soul that was too great to ask. She grinned back at him before the onslaught began. Her fists clashed with his face over and over again. Neither myself or Gustus dared to intervene. She almost killed him before stopping, her heart racing, her fists covered in blood. "I'll not show you the mercy of death, War Chief! Not yet!"
Lexa left him with Gustus. Outside she breathed deeply and gave me her orders, "Send my personal guards to infiltrate Azgeda and locate Costia. Get our armies ready to move. Queen Nia won't rest and neither should we!"
