Falling

Chapter 2 : Second Period

"Today we will be starting our literature project." Mrs.Brooks said. She passed out the guidelines and rubrics to everyone. I reached out my hand to grab the papers and Alex did too for a brief moment our hands touched and I felt sparks. We made eye contact and i turned away from his gaze.

"You have the rest of the period to work." Mrs.Brooks added.

"What book are we going to do? " Alex asked.

" I don't know." I answered.

"That's not helping." Alex stated.

" Thanks Captain Obvious." I replied with a attitude.

" I love it when you're aggravated." Alex said. I blushed and began to write my name on the papers.

"Aliyah, that's a pretty name." Alex complemented me.

"Thanks." I said awkwardly.

" Are you uncomfortable?." Alex asked with a smirk.

"No." I lied. Alex came closer and whispered in my ear. I immediately tensed up.

" Are you uncomfortable now?" He asked.

"N-no." I stuttered.

"Lies." Alex said.

"Alex, stop being a bully." Kayla said.

"Im not , im just getting to know her." He said innocently.

"Just back off." Kayla informed him.

"Whatever you say." He agreed. A note from one of Alex's friends, Derrick landed on my desk. I opened it and it said:

Come to my party @ 6:00 on Saturday,  March 15 (Call me for directions)

I looked at him in disbelief. Why would he invite me,  I thought.

Thirty minutes later the bell rung.

Kayla and I walked to lunch with

Grace. When we got there our other friends were waiting for us. When I spotted Alex across the lunchroom, I

smoothed down my long sleeved peach chiffon shirt. I walked to the lunch line with pure confidence just as I was about to grab the last chicken sandwhich Alex did. I stared at him and he winked at me.

" She had that first." Grace spoke up.

"Technically she didn't." Alex said and then walked away.

"You can have some of mine." Kayla offered.

"It's fine." I said as I grabbed a juice, cookies, chips, and ice cream.
