Wade burst through the trees running towards the body that he had once before diverted his eyes from, now wanted nothing more than to see it. Wade was so focused on getting to Gar he didn't see the root sticking out of the ground until his foot made contact and he went face first into the dirt. He skid to a stop and slowly rose his head. His breath caught in his throat when he saw what was in front of him. Wade could never describe what he saw when he looked at Gars body so nether will I. Wade quickly backed up trying to get far away as possible. He leaned against the tree and covered his face with his hands.
"Gar......no." Tears ran down Wades face and he let them. Gar was dead and it was obvious it wasn't a quick and painless one. It took Wade a good thirty minutes of crying before he pulled himself together and started back for the others. What was this game? One of his best friends is dead and he didn't know why. Why was all this happening?
"Wade?" Wade looked up to see Patrick and JP waiting where he had left them. He cleared his throat.
"Let's get going. The gates not that far off right? We need to get out of this crazy place. Then....we'll figure the rest out when we get into town." The two nodded slowly and they continued their walk to the gate. No one spoke a word about what had happened while they walked. What could they say? It wasn't long before they reached the gate just like Wade had said.
"Well it looks like we can just leave." Wade said as he slowly walked to the gate.
"Nooo. It's to easy." JP said squinting his eyes skeptically at the wood frame.
"Come on guys we need to get going before it gets dark. I don't know about you but I want to get out of this hell hole." Patrick said as he put his hand on the wood. Suddenly something reflected behind it and Patrick was sent backwards and slammed into JP.
"What the h***!" Patrick yelled as he sat back up. Wade looked back at the gate and grabbed a stick. He chucked it and when it crossed the fence line a light flashed and the stick was sent back.
"A... barrier?" Wade asked looking at the gate.
"I KNEW IT! Never easy!" JP yelled.
"So then what? Were stuck? What do they want?!" Patrick yelled to no one in particular. Suddenly their radios made a static noise as it came to life.
"Now that we have gotten that nonsense out of the way we can actually start taking this seriously. Yes?" Said the same woman from before.
"Who are you?!" Wade asked pulling the radio up.
"People who wish for you to actually start playing the game. We get bored when all you do is walk. Yes you can't get out. You understand that now yes? Good now start already."
"You killed Gar.... for a game?" Wade was shaking now.
"Oh yes that. I did forget to mention one small detail. Everyday you don't kill big foot .... you loose another loved one. Have fun." The static quit and silence once again took hold.
