Monday morning, a typical morning in New York's city centre. The sun was shining over the tops of the towering buildings, people bustling to get to work dodging in and out of traffic. Car horns been tossed about the crisp air at each other to get moving. Is it true what they say?
"New York is the city that never sleeps".
There was a light breeze rushing through the open doors of Zebedee's coffee shop and that's where I was headed to get my morning coffee. Hi my name is Samantha Little, but everyone calls me Sam. I've got shoulder length golden blonde hair with brownie green eyes. I'm five foot five and quite slim. I'm your average New York City girl. Born and raised. I stop by Zebedee's every morning which was my usual routine before I got to work.
The queue in Zebedee's was so long, it was never like this when I usually arrived through the pale green doors to order my Latte but this morning I was Late, so late that I had to wait in a boring queue. I knew I should have gone to bed a bit earlier but my TV had unfortunately kept me awake most of the night. Right so I have twenty five minutes to get to Poise's morning board meeting and from what I can see outside I was going to need a miracle.
Poise is the magazine that I work for. I am their publisher, so I am responsible for all aspects of acquiring, preparing and managing the magazine. You would think I would have a bit of leeway since I'm the publisher but no, not today the CEO of Poise is probably making his way into the building as I stand in this lengthy queue.
Finally I get to the counter order my large caramel latte and as I turn to leave I bump into someone or rather they have bumped into me and it has sent my latte lashing into the air spilling all over this person who has grasped my arm. It was a man. He let go of me instantly and quickly swept down his trousers. I was so frustrated after all that waiting to get my latte and for it to be dripping down a stranger's trouser leg!
As I glanced round at him he was still fussing over the wet coffee stain on his trousers.
"Sorry" I said softly.
His head rose, his eyes met mine and he just stared in awe.
"I'm sorry do I know you?" he said.
I had to think for a minute hmmm do I know this man. He's got wavy brown hair, he's tall and my oh my his eyes are just the most gorgeous sparkle of blue I've ever seen. I instantly became embarrassed now. I knew who he was. It was Ben Mooreland, the boy who every girl had a crush on from kinder garden to high school including me.
Ben Mooreland was captain of the football team and class body president. He was the guy that every girl dreamt of. He was the guy that every girl would have his name circled in little hearts on the insides of their notebooks or even in the insides of their lockers.
So many people looked up to Ben in school he was always surrounded by crowds of people but most of the time it was the cheerleaders that were hanging around him. Cooing over him with their puppy dog eyes.
I always got so jealous of the cheerleaders after all I was a no body. A little geek girl. He never noticed me then so why the hell would he even recognise me now?
As I started to regain consciousness from my little daydream,
"Samantha Little is that you?" He did recognise me!
"Yes" I replied in bafflement.
"Oh my god, I didn't even recall you getting your braces removed. You had braces right?"
Yes he was right I had braces, braces and spots that you could obviously join up to make a picture on my face. I was never a prize peach in high school. I froze, didn't know what to say or do. The aura that comes from him is just so exquisite. I am just like that little girl that had the crush on him back in high school.
