Finals was around the corner and no one was ready for it. If you listened carefully, you could hear the students screaming and crying as their freedom and innocence was being replaced by 24/7 worry and full nights spent studying instead of sleeping. Nights like the one Sam and Gabriel were experiencing right now.
Turns out movie watching was never a good study method. That fact had hit Gabriel hard when the realization had come. He had barely-passing grades in most subjects and the same span of attention to intellectual material as a baby had towards economics.
Sam was the better student of the two but after years of living in the streets and learning only through the occasional school book Dean could find for his younger brother, studying wasn't his forte either.
So that's why they were awake, at the ungodly hour of 3:36 am, on a Saturday night (Sunday morning?), laying in the floor between spread out notes and exercises, with three cups of coffee each already in their systems. Gabe was doing worse than Sam was, the latter used to unstable sleep patterns. And by worse, I mean he-just-fell-asleep-on-Sam's-arm-for-the-fourth-time-worse.
'Gabe.' Sam tried, shaking slightly to wake the sleeping boy. 'Gabe. Gabe there are pancakes and lollipops for breakfast.' That got the bastard to wake up instantly and wide-eyed, looking for the promised sweets. Sam laughed. 'Idiot. But there is calculus and the history of languages waiting for your attention so why don't you focus on that.' Sam added a charming smile and went back to reading about the British and their plan for world domination that failed (thankfully. I mean, the accents would be great but imagine all those British grandmas running after you while chanting tea every four-o'clock) (I'm kidding) (kinda).
Gabriel grunted, back to his sleeping-but-somehow-awake status, too tired to protest against Sam's lie of pancake and lollipop, looking back down at his notes.
He lasted for about 0.57 seconds.
'Saaaaaaaaaaam.' Sam didn't bat an eye, obviously interested in the Brits. (Haha guys seriously you get the reference right? British men of letters? Yeah those assholes) 'Saaaamueeeeeel.' Didn't even twitch when Gabe lazily poked his shoulder. 'Samaaaantha.' Gabriel was pretty sure Sam's eyes narrowed slightly and he huffed silently but through his sleepy state he really couldn't be sure. 'Saaaaaaaaammooooooooooooose!' Gabriel was now using the very last of his concentration and energy to repeatedly punch Sam's shoulder.
'What?' The moose snapped and Gabe laughed in joy of getting his attention, his mind really not in the correct state for social interaction.
'I like you Samooooooooose.' Gabriel laughed— no, giggled— again while Sam, underneath the dark lighting of the room, blushed.
'I like you as well, Gabriel. That why we are friends.' Sam replied and Gabriel frowned, poking the boy again in frustration.
'No, you don't get it. I like like you.' He giggled once more. 'Like I like like you like a lot.' Sam was sporting a nice scarlet color on his cheeks but the slightly insane boy didn't notice. 'Buuuut noooooooooo. You can't like like me back. You just like me. That's why we are friends.' Gabriel's repeated Sam's previous statement.
There was a moment of silent (should we count again? No? Okay, okay, fine.).
'I like like you too.' Sam said quietly and Gabe, with his sleepy mind and half closed eyes, made a comical 'o' shape with his mouth and opened his eyes as wide as he could.
'Oooooooooooooooh. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooh.' He nodded to himself, before repeating the same action. 'Ooooooooooh–'
'Okay you need some sleep.' Sam decided and stood up and half-dragged Gabriel to his bed, forcing him to lie down and throwing his blanket over him, then laying down on his own bed.
'Good night golden boy.'
'Good night moose.'
But it wasn't even five minutes later when, with both boys still awake, Gabriel asked,
'Wait, so you like like me?' Sam sighed but replied.
'Yeah. I do.'
Gabriel repeated the 'ooooooooh'. Within a minute, he was fast asleep. Minutes later, Sam shut down as well.
Le time skip.
The morning after, Gabriel was giving Sam all kinds of weird looks.
'What is it?' Sam asked by the forth time he caught him peaking, making use of a sassy tone to cover up his reddening cheeks.
'Nothing... just... Had a weird dream last night.'

'But why?' Dean threw his notes in the air before getting up and getting them back, muttering, 'I need those.'
The librarian shushed him and gave him the stink eye for raising his voice, like librarians do.
'Because that's how chemistry works!' Cas huffed, taking another sip of his coffee. That stuff was a gift from God and Cas was one to know. The stuff usually wasn't allowed inside the library but since it seemed to sustain all the student's lifelines for the moment, the school had unanimously made a decision to let it go.
'Cas.' Dean was smiling. 'Cas.' The boy in question groaned silently because it was the smile Dean always wore before telling a truly terrible joke. 'The only chemistry that makes sense to me is the one between me and you.'
Cas gave him an unimpressed glare but the librarian stifled a laugh and a girl at another table almost spit out her coffee, whispering 'oh my god' under her breath.
'Yeah well that one isn't gonna help you pass eleventh grade so shut up and study.' Cas grumbled, taking a longer sip of coffee. Cas, like any normal person, got grumpy when he didn't get enough sleep. But Dean? The less sleep he got the worse jokes he seemed to make.
The blond muttered something like 'grumpy cat' and then repeating it as 'grumpy cas' before looking back down at his notes.
'You know, atoms form bonds.' Cas looked at the boyfriend he was regretting knowing. 'Remind you of anyone?' Dean empathized it with a final wink.
'Well it won't remind me of us if you don't study. Or at least, let me study.' Cas, getting grumpier and grumpier by the second, replied.
'Grumpy caaaaaaas.' Dean repeated and, as much as he hated it, Cas smiled slightly.
Then he returned to death staring him.
