Chapter Three

October 12

Sophomore Year

I had only dated one guy in my whole entire fifteen years. His name was Drake. I met him in seventh, but we didn’t start going out until freshman year. I was always the type of girl who will always put education in front of everything and sometimes it will even surprise me that I actually agreed on going out with Drake. Hailey had a total fit when she found out what happened.

“Girl do you want me to stab you with a fork,” she said raising her plastic fork in the air as if she was going to stab me.

The thought of that just makes me laugh. She was the best friend that every girl would want and need. Hailey was there when I needed her. Even with the scars that covered her in the past, she kept going on. She was strong and I had never met any other girl as strong as her. If it was me, maybe I would have thrown myself off a random building.

Hailey snapped her finger in front of my face pulling me back into reality. “Done dreaming, Cinderella,” she said putting her legs up on the chair next to her. “You know that you will never be like Cinderella no matter how many dreams you’ll have, right?”

“Way to kill my mood, evil Queen,” I said.

She raised her eyebrow in confusion. “That’s in Snow White.”

I stopped eating my sandwich and shrugged. “They’re all the same: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping beauty. Pretty girls ending up with their prince charming.”

She laughed. “Girl, you are freaking adorable? Mixing Snow White and Cinderella up,” she said clutching to her stomach. “Did I tell you how much I love you today?”

I groaned. “Stop being cheesy and yes you did say how much you love me.”

“Pas d’amour pour moi,” Kieran said batting his eyes and he slipped into the seat beside me.

“Non, non, je ne te connais pas,” I said taking out the tomatoes and cheese.

“You’re using the wrong tense,” Kieran said. “If you really didn’t know me, then you would have used the vous form.”

“Ugh,” Hailey shouted covering her ears with her hand. “Stop polluting my brain with your smartness.” She chewed her fries with her hand still over her ears. “I prefer to stay failing in French class.”

“It doesn’t make you look any smarter,” Kieran said.

“Stop being jealous, Peanuts,” she said and smirked.

“Did I tell you how much I hate you,” he said and bit into his ham sandwich hard. He hated when people called him Peanuts. Kieran used to be small; he was even shorter than both me and Hailey, but puberty came along and made him into a giant.

“Yeah I can tell,” she said and winked at him. “I’m feeling it in the air.” She took in one deep breath aggravating Kieran even more.

Suddenly, giggles interrupted our conversation. We turned to see Drake with Janice, the school slut. He had his arm wrapped around her waist and she leaned closer whispering something into his ear. I lowered my head and focus on eating my sandwich.
