The next morning, found Sirius Black's lifeless body lying across the Gryffindor table. Almost poetically James was the first person to enter the great hall as he had been looking for him, this was not what he had been expecting to find.
James didn't believe it at first, didn't believe that the man with a dagger in his chest, and blood streaming from his mouth and ears could be his best friend. His Padfoot.
James sprinted over to where he lay, he stood over Sirius and searched desperately for a breath, a heartbeat, a movement, any sign of life, all were absent. James sunk to the floor . "No, no, no, no, NO, NO!" James screamed. "Padfoot?" His voice was brittle as if it may break at any given moment, "please Pads this isn't funny," he attempted fruitlessly.
But eventually he had to accept that Sirius was gone where there was no getting him back.
James reached a shaking hand up, and tenderly closed his best friends eyes. He then proceeded to resume his previous position.
3:00 a.m.
Sirius wondered around the great hall, in the darkness, waiting for his brother, Regulus, with the note in hand that was slipped into his potions book.
Meet me in the great hall at 3:00 don't be late and make sure you aren't followed -R.A.B
"Brother?" Sirius whipped around at the sound of his brother's voice.
"Brother?" Sirius inquired. "Why so formal, Reg?" He said as Regulus stepped into the light.
"Mother says it's proper." Regulus replied not quite looking Sirius in the eyes.
Sirius scoffed "mother married her cousin, and you feel she has good judgement?"
Sirius became worried as his brother made no attempt to respond.
"So why the urgent note to meet you here, and the, make sure your not followed, part?"
"So I can get away with murder." At that moment a sharp feeling went through Sirius's body as he backed away from, Regulus, he wanted to scream for help, but his brother then covered his mouth and put him on the Gryffindor table. As he started to walk away Regulus said "See you in hell." "I'll be waiting on a throne." Sirius spat back. Sirius then lay there as blood rushed from his wound trying to pull out the dagger that was lodged in his chest. His breath then started to falter, and he felt his life slowly ebbing away, as a light appeared in his eyes then, darkness fell, and his brother walked away a tear running down his cheek. Sirius's fight was over, all was lost, and it was his brother's doing.
