Yuuri Katsuki had never believed in soulmates, sure he had a tattoo that said, "Do you need some help?" and he couldn't see color, but his parents weren't soulmates and yet they were fine. They had had both him and his sister, and yet they were fine as well. His sister, Mari, hadn't found her soulmate either, which had always made him think even more that they weren't actually real. So, when one day his best friend, Yuko, met her soulmate at the ice rink, it gave him a little more hope. But, that sadly meant that she started hanging out with him less and less, until she almost completely forgot about him. And that did not help out with his depression. Ever since then, he's been off and on different medications, some help, while others have made it much much worse.

Now that he's sixteen, he's probably spent 1/2 of his life at the local ice rink in his town, mostly because he can't express his emotions well except for on the ice. Because of his limited social contact, he's been bullied a lot, especially now that he's in high school. That's another factor contributing to his depression, and right now, there are a lot of factors. So... he wears long sleeves all the time.

He also tends to be an introvert who obsesses over every mistake that he makes, and can't forgive himself (or others) easily. That's why he drives away most people he's ever met. His sister always tells him to, "Move on and leave the past where it belongs, in the past," but he can't and just replies with, "I'm not stuck in the past, I just hate the present."

Victor Nikiforov is pretty basically a happy-go-lucky seventeen year-old (a/n i just shortened the age difference to make it more realistic), who loves everyone and everything for who they are. It doesn't matter to him if you're male or female (or both), your race, your looks, or your personality, he will be the sunshine in your life that clears away the dark stormy clouds. Now, he believes in soulmates, but he also believes that you don't need a soulmate to be happy. After all, his parents aren't soulmates, but his best friend, Mila, has found hers. Since he believes this, he decided that since he hasn't found his soulmate yet, he should make it a priority to do what he wants to do, and not waste his life looking for someone who may not even need him. But how wrong he was... his soulmate may not admit it, but he needs him a lot.

Right now, Victor was practicing a figure skating routine that he had choreographed himself, he was quite poor so he didn't have enough money for a coach and was self taught. Even though he never had professional training, he was considered to be Russia's rising star in the senior men's division. His brother was gaining popularity in the junior men's division as well. It was both of their dreams to win the Grand Prix Finals someday. Victor thinks that his soulmate gives him the strength to compete since he kisses the simple phrase on his wrist before every competition, it says and always will say, "I guess my blood is red." Victor kinda thought that maybe he wouldn't ever meet his soulmate, but he thought it was worse for his little brother, Yuri, who had no words on his wrist at all. He just decided that they'd meet when the time was right, wether it be in two weeks or two years.
