We walked around the streets casually with our arms linked together. Some people saw us walking but they ignored us. They'd see us walking but then go back to what ever they were doing. I was glad that our new looks were working. No one walked up to us until we neared the gate.
An elderly woman came up to us seeming happy.
"Ah what it's like to be young and in love. I'm so happy for you young man." She said to Will. "She's very beautiful. I hope you are happy."
"Excuse me ma'am. We aren't-"
"And you, young lady, have picked a handsome man as well. Hopefully he will ask for your hand before some other man sweeps you up off of your feet. I see you guys very happy later on in life." The women kept going on.
"Miss, We're not-" Will tried again.
"Grandmother, stop pestering these nice people. They seem to be heading somewhere nice. You're going to make them late." A young woman came and grabbed her grandmother's arm to gently lead her away. "Sorry if she bothered you two." She shouted back.
"She was harmless." I yelled back being courteous. "Poor woman. She's so confused." I said to myself. Will and I kept walking to the gate. We neared closer and closer to our destination. Finally the gate was in our sight.
I got anxious as we got closer. I hadn't realized I had started to pull Will until he told me to slow down. I was hurting his injured arm. The gate was smaller then what I remembered. I had been this close to the gate when I was nine but that was the only time. The wall that rose up behind the gate was as large as I remembered it. Guards were in front of the gate to make sure people never came through.
Now the hard part, getting inside.
I straightened my self out so I could look presentable for the guards. Will and I didn't need to look like some kids trying to get a peak of what was on the other side. Will seemed surprisingly calm as we neared. He didn't seem nervous or excited. No anxiety crossed his face either. The closer we got he seemed to become a bit more hardened with no expression on his face. He seemed like he was trying to look like he had some confidents and authority.
The guard met us a few feet away from the gate. He seemed to be stern and stood in an aggressive way. "Halt. If you two think you're going to get through the gate I'm sorry to say that you're not. Only people with authorization can pass through the gates. So you might as well move along now." The guard didn't seem like he was going to change his mind.
I was about to say something when Will said, "Yes sir we would like to go through the gate I think I have something that would let us in."
Will went through the bag that was around me. I looked at him confused. I didn't remember anything being in there that could help. He searched for a few minutes having trouble with what ever he was trying to find.
"If you have something for me I would like to see it before I die." The guard said annoyed. Will came out of the bag.
"Here you go sir." Will handed the man a handful of what seemed like money. I wanted to hit him. The man was probably not going to let us in now.
"If you're trying to buy your way in it's not... going... to..." The guard flipped around a coin that seemed different then the rest. It was definitely larger then the regular coins. It seemed dull on one side and it seemed like it had something engraved on it. There wasn't too much of a difference in the coins at first glance. It was probably the reason I had never noticed it before. I couldn't get a good enough look at it with the guard turning it around.
"Here you go." The guard gave Will back the different coin. Instead of putting it back in the pack, where I could take a look at it, he put a string around it and wrapped it around his neck. The guard tried to give the money back.
