I no longer look for the good in people,

I search for the real...

because while good is often dressed in fake clothing,

real is naked and proud no matter the scars

real is naked and proud no matter the scars

"You do realize how dumb of an idea that is?" I asked, confused as Betty explained what happened on the field today with her, Veronica and Archie and the dance. Archie was taking both of them? Well, this was not going to be a pretty outcome. Veronica was supposedly going to help Betty overcome her fear of telling Archie she liked him.

I was at my mom's house with Betty and Veronica over. We had finished another exhausting cheer practice, and we just all decided to study at mine. Mom was cleaning downstairs or something, and Brian was at work.

"Well Kevin's going stag too, so he'll be there with us as well. Who are you going with?" Veronica asked, curious. I shrugged my shoulders.

"We'll see if I even go" I replied, not too thrilled about going to the dance.

"What?! You can't not go..." Betty said, confused and alarmed. Veronica looked at me with wide eyes.

"I don't know, I just... I'm not feeling it this year. It's weird commemorating my friend's dead brother with a dance. Cheryl will probably drag me regardless. She said something about having a guy who was dying to go with me" I said, focusing more on my homework than the 'tragedy' of not going to this dance.

"Oh! I wonder who that is? I mean it could be anyone, look at you. I getcha though about Jason, but it will be fun! We can all get pretty dresses, and pretend that the dull and gloom of this town is gone for the night" Veronica said, trying to sound all poetic. Betty and I just looked at each other with raised eyebrows.

"Whatever floats your boat, V" I said, as I just kept writing.

"Have you started looking for a dress Betty?" Veronica asked, clearly not getting any answers from me. Betty was still looking over to me a few times during the conversation, before shaking her head.

"oh good. Because I was planning on going tomorrow night, if you two wanted to come with?" Veronica offered, and Betty and I nodded.

"Sure, why not?" I replied, shrugging my shoulders. Veronica clapped her hands in excitement, as we then all went back to finishing this paper.

"Honey! There's someone at the door for you!" Mom shouted so I could hear it in my bedroom. Veronica and Betty looked at me curiously, as I just shrugged my shoulders. They followed me to the top of the staircase, to see Reggie at my doorstep... holding a bouquet of pink peonies. My favorite. They stayed at the top, watching as I went to greet him at the door.
