The children swam upwards towards the ceiling, except the ceiling was no more. High above them was a strong, radiant light and everyone swam up towards it.
They were quite near the ship; Lucy saw its green side towering high above them, and people looking at her from the deck. Then, as one might have expected, Eustace clutched at her in a panic and down they both went.
When they came up again Lucy saw a white figure diving off the ships side. Edmund was close beside her now, treading water, and had caught the arms of the howling Eustace. Then someone else, whose face was vaguely familiar, slipped an arm under her from the other side.
Hermione had burst through the waves just behind the Pevensies. She gasped for well needed air but barely cleared her vision before an arm wrapped around her waist. A male reassured her so she didn't panic, but it would be a lie to say she didn't struggle.
There was a lot of shouting going on from the ship, heads crossing together above the bulwarks, ropes being thrown. Edmund and the stranger had fastened ropes around Lucy, and another did same to Hermione — who protested much more dramatically compared to Lucy. After that followed what seemed a very long delay during which Lucy's face got blue and her teeth began chattering. In reality the delay was not very long; they were waiting till the moment when she could be got on board the ship without being dashed against its side. Even with all their best endeavours she had a bruised knee when she finally stood, dripping and shivering, on the deck. After her, Hermione was heaved up, then Edmund and a miserable Eustace. Last of all came the stranger — an auburn-haired boy some years older than Hermione.
"Ca— Ca— Caspian!" gasped Lucy as soon as she had enough breath.

For Caspian it was; Caspian, the boy king of Narnia whom Edmund and Lucy had helped to set on the throne during their last visit. Instantly Edmund recognised him too. All three shook hands and clapped one another on the back with great delight.
"But who are your friends?" asked Caspian almost at once, turning to Hermione and Eustace with his cheerful smile.
A kind smile was reciprocated by the witch. But Eustace was crying much harder than any child of his age has a right to cry, when nothing worse than wetting had happened to him, and would only yell out:
"Let me go. Let me go. I don't like it."
If Hermione had even attempted to introduce herself, Caspian most likely wouldn't have heard her.
