"Alfred, Your back!"

The blond stood in the doorway of your home with a duffel over his shoulder and his worn, army green soldier suit still on. He smiled shyly as you wrapped your best friend into a death hug, which he returned. For about five minutes you both just stood in the doorway  like that, wrapped in the embraces you both longed for over the several years the war was going on. You both sat there, inhaling the familiar scent of each other that had been gone for so long. You were grateful to have Alfred home again, even if you only acted as his best friend. You had fallen for the shy and polite country, but you did not want your feelings getting in the way of work. You yourself were a country, but you were neutral, so throughout World War One, you just sat back and hoped your crush would make it out okay.

You remember this day quite vividly, the excitement to see your crush once more, but little did you know, those feelings would be contradicted quite soon.

Fast forward a few years, it was now the start of World War Two, and Alfred had to go away once more. Dressed in a newer, army green uniform, you bid him farewell as he went to fight with his fellow Americans. You remembered how shocked he was when you both heard about the Pearl Harbor bombings on the radio that December, and how Germany felt close enough to Japan to declare was on Alfred. You were saddened he had to go away again, but would not go against your beliefs, even if you loved him.

You knew however, you were going to miss Alfred, the polite and shy American that you had fell in love with. You met him when trying to find your way to the meeting room, and on the way you introduced yourselves and made polite conversation on the way. After awhile you both kept running into eachother and it bagane a friendship you thought nothing could break.

Boy were you wrong.

Now you were seated in a world meeting once more, observing America from afar. After World War Two he changed. He got louder and became a show off, flaunting his powers to others. He used to be quiet in world meetings, quietly chatting with you most of the time about little things like women's fashion for that period or what books the two of you had recently read. Now however, he was fighting with Britain and France, mocking Russia, and had a terrible sense of grammar and speech, not to mention his gluttony for the unhealthy food he used to despise with a passion. Yes, you may say that your country was stuck in the past, and that was slightly true. The thing is, your country was mostly isolated from others not having relations of trade with others, so naturally your country was politer, not that quickly aggravated, and unfamiliar with some big changes the world has made around you. Your safe haven was nice however, your people were happy having things like gay and women's rights, and you were at peace. The only thing that held you down was the thought of your old best friend, and why he changed so drastically.

When he got back and started acting the way he did, you obviously asked is he was okay and what was pushing him to be so out of character. He replied with nothing, that he was completely fine. You did not buy this however, and beat around the bush whenever you hung out. You had no idea what was going on, and your closest friend would not give you an answer. He was so different now, and you could not stand it. He would try to still meet up with you, but with the contrast in personality's and the fact you knew this was not the Alfred you once knew, you started to decline his offers. You just couldn't.

On the flip side, America was looking at you out of the corner of his eye the whole entire time. He often looked over to you in meetings to see if any hints of why you could no longer meet up with him in these meetings. He knew that his personality changed after the second war, it was completely intentional, but he did not know that he would loose you in a result to that. You had no idea that the American had fallen for you in a result of your long friendship. He longed for your embrace, the scent of green tea that you always seemed to have, but that was all in memory now. He no longer could enjoy the simple things with you that he used to in result of his new attitude and personality. He had thought about it when he was alone, just him and Ameri-cat. He wanted to approach you, but could not sum up the courage to do so. But on the rare occasion that things were calm, he would just look at you, wondering what what would have happened if you kept in touch. He usually never interfered with you in meetings now a days, but some things, like this, would snap Alfred's mental rule in half.
