This is a song fic, music is above, obviously the song name is 'Toumei Answer'.
Arthur Kirkland was a smart and gifted student who tended to think negatively everything life threw his way. He got top grades, and was almost always seen studying or daydreaming in class and out. He had no close friends, and his family life was never really known. he was known as the loner in the back of class, but it all changed when she came.
Now some more background on Arthur before we get to how the reader changed him. He was very depressed, yet did not feel the need to end his life or harm himself. Yes, he wanted to disappear half the time, but he just could not do it. Not that he was scared, but something always held him back. He did not want to weigh his problems on anyone else either, so no close relations were made with him. He just did not see the reason for living. He was always seen getting good grades. Everyday seemed the same to him. He had nothing to worry about, nothing to be excited about, it all just mixed in and ended up a blur in his mind. He just didn't see the point.
(Name) (Last name) was a transfer student into Arthur's stereotypical anime looking school. (Name) just happened to get seated next to Arthur, which we all know he was delighted about. He paid not much attention to her, but they ended up becoming friends. It all started when after the teacher gave back their test, he heard giggling. Looking over, he saw (name) holding a failing grade and chuckling at herself. She then folded it into an origami crane and set it on her desk. He always wondered how people got such bad grades when the material was so simple, but he kept those thoughts to himself.
He ended up becoming close with the girl, but it was masked by his cold, tsundere appearance. (Name) knew there was more to him, so she stuck around. She seemed to always be smiling, joking, and being the general highlight of Arthur's day. He never could have guessed what was hidden underneath.
(Name) was suicidal. She cowered behind her smiles hoping for someone to help, but her calls were never answered. They were never answered and it was her own fault. She told no one of wanting to disappear permanently. She told no one of the countless scars on her wrist from years of being in this horrid state. She told no one of her problems, and it stayed that way. She waned to disappear, yet kept the smile for everyone's sake. She wanted no one to trouble themselves over her, not even her own parents. She had a solid mask to hide behind, but all masks break after awhile.
Now that's enough background for now, lets go to the present.
(Name) and Arthur were having lunch in their math class for the loudness of the lunchroom was too overbearing for them to have a decent conversation. Not to mention that they had no other friends besides each other, so going to the lunchroom would be pointless. So they sat in there normal seats, talking about random things that popped into their minds, well, most of the talking and topics came from (name) with Arthur giving a nod or short opinion on the matter that was being talked about. Arthur as you can tell, mostly stayed silent through their chats, sipping Earl Grey and eating his 'scones'.
Something out of character was asked to him.
"Arthur?"
"Yes, love?"
"Do you ever see things that seem like one thing, but are really the opposite. Like when you get a present on Christmas Day wrapped up in pretty paper, but when you open it, it reveals nothing?"
'Yes, I am the prime example of that' he thought while pretending to think.
"Yes. I do believe many things in life relate or are just like that. Why do yo ask?"
Arthur noticed something was off about the question, so obviously, he asked about it. (Name) grew somewhat nervous about his question, but kept her usual smile and replied like she usually would.
"Because you are just like that, Arthur! Everyone sees you as a cold, stuck up brat who gets good grades, but your really the best friend ever!"
Arthur was relived at the statement. For a moment, he thought his depression had been found out, but he was wrong. He turned to her and gave (Name) a small smile.
"I'm glad you think so (name), your my best friend also."
"I'm your only friend, silly!"

(Name) was not there at school the next day. It didn't surprise Arthur though, she would frequently take what she claimed were 'days off'. Most likely to happen on test days, she would bail and relax from what information she relayed back to Arthur the next day. (Name) says that her parents never really cared about her school life. So some days she would stay home to sleep in, read manga, and relax. What Arthur didn't know was that her relax days were the days her mind clawed at her to the point she didn't want to move. She eventually got over them though, and returned to Arthur safe and sound at school.
The next day, (name) was not at school either, and Arthur was troubled. He wondered what had happened to her, but didn't know any problems she had. He just passed it off and hoped she was safe. They never exchanged any contact info or addresses, so Arthur could not do much. He was thinking of (name) all day, but just knew she was fine. The next day, however, was very different.

Arthur walked into class like any other day, but quickly saw the distress and tears in his classmates eyes. Thinking it was odd, he sat down. Observing the class once more, he noticed many had white lilies.
'Did someone die?' He thought.
Not wanting to pry, he left the subject alone and played attention to class. Yes, (name) wasn't there, but even so his test scores needed to stay the same.
When class finally ended, he got up and started to pack away his things, but heard a thump next to his desk. Turning around, he saw a vase of white lilies on (name)'s desk.
Wait a minute...
WHAT HAPPENED TO (NAME)?
Arthur went up to the sobbing school girl who had placed the flowers there to get the details.
"Excuse me, why did you put white lot lilies on (name)'s desk?"
"Oh, you haven't heard..."
"Hear what?"
"(Name)...... (Name) took her life yesterday on the school rooftop. Everyone thought she would never do such a thing! She was always the light in the room!"
The girl started to sob. Arthur rushed to the roof were (name) had jumped, taking along a test he had with him. When he finally got there he went up to the rail and sighed. He thought by about (name) and why she did this.
Thinking to himself, he realized why, he knew the feeling too well.
She could no longer take loving with a heart that wanted to disappear. To live behind a smile that masked her pleas for help.
But even if it was a fake smile that eventually drifted away with the wind...
Arthur could not think of a more beautiful smile.
Tears started to stream down his face silently as he started to fold his test into a paper crane. (Name) always seemed to do it, so it was his way of remembering his best friend. He held the fragile origami crane in his shaking hands. He was about to put it down, but noticed something.
Two other cranes sitting peacefully by the rail.
A choked sob left Arthur as he placed his down, knowing that (name) was going to watch over him no matter what.
I swear that I am not a wannabe emo, I just like depressing stuff.
Once again, I'm going to try and update three times a week so look forward to that.
